 Till The Storm Passes By!
« Thread Started on Oct 8, 2009, 1:02am »

Howdy everyone. I gave my testimony of Salvation in the fellowship hall. I think I was suppose to do that here, but I will soon learn which is where and so on.... I was wanting to share with you all, the testimony of this last year.

One year ago this month was when I was introduced to the truths of head covering. I accepted the truths and began to practice head covering. The first night I and my girls would wear head coverings to church services, was on a Wednesday night. We walk into the entry way. There stood the pastors wife and she glared at me and said to her husband, out loud for all to hear she said smugly, "Oh no!!! She's been talking to Kathrine!!!". Katherine is a fellow church lady who had been visiting our church at the time. She is the one who pointed out 1 Corinthians 11 to me. I guess she had already talked to the pastors wife too. The pastor and his wife stood there and told me I had mis interpreted the scriptures and it was not needful for me to cover, If I was convicted, I should just grow out my hair. Another lady asked about the coverings and I explained 1 Corinthians 11 to her. I told her she should read it for herself. Before services started he Pastor came to me and apologized for being so quick to attack me on the head coverings. He just told me that when people change something about themselves so suddenly that it catches people off guard and doing so caused him to concerned. He asked me if I was going to be offended if none other in the church believe in practicing the head covering. I told him that I am not the one who will answer for what others do or don't do. I have to answer for me and what I teach my children. I went home that night, kinda discouraged, but felt that the subject had reach the highest level of debate that it would. One older preacher in the church did call us little Muslims as we were shaking his hand. He was teasing so I thought, but I looked at him respectfully and told him that I would rather him not play around about the coverings. It was something serious to me. He said he was sorry and we left it at that. The following Sunday morning the pastor called my husband and I into his office before Sunday School Started. He told us that he loved us, but he knew we were making this our own doctrine and if I continued to wear the coverings I would no longer be allowed to teach Sunday School or represent the church in any way, such as singing special or anything. I was crushed. I tried to say anything I could to him. My husband tried, but he told us we were going to hurt the church. I told him that I didn't want to hurt the church and if I had to stop wearing the coverings that He would be judged for this, not me. My husband didn't know what to say. This was too weird. It is right there in the Bible. How can we be punished for following what the Bible says. We left his office and I barely made it through church. The pain was unbearable it seemed. I was being bullied and we were not suppose to talk to anyone about it to see what anyone else thought. The pastor said if we did then we would be going against his authority and there would be grave consequences. Well, I didn't care. What could be worse than this. So I confided in my Best Friend. Her name is Lisa. She was shocked and without me knowing, she confided in her husband. A few miserable weeks went by. I was confused. Wondered if I was wrong, if I was right, looked here...looked there for answers. After praying and reading and talking to my hubby and praying and reading. I decided that no matter what they did to me, I was going to do what I knew God wanted. Nothing could be worse that what Jesus did for me. Much to my surprise, my best friends husband had been studying all this ever since she told him what had happened. The Lord wouldn't let him sleep either. She said He was up three days night and day studying. He decided to go to the Pastor and tell him what he now believed about the coverings. When he did so. The pastor told him that the devil was trying to ruin our lives and if he told us that he believed what we did, that he would be in trouble too. My Best friends husband couldn't do it though. He knew that he needed to tell us what he believed. That the pastor was wrong and so he came to us and told my husband that he would be willing to go with him to talk to the pastor again. Nothing he was doing was scriptural. Keeping secrets in the church. What is that about? We are to be like minded and in one accord. Well, to make a long story a little shorter. The pastor ended up resigning. The man that called us Muslims moved the church to repay the pastor the money that equaled his tithes and offerings that he paid the year he was our pastor. The pastor actually accepted the money. That was a rip off. He ended up with almost 10,000 dollars. Leaving our Church with only 8,000 dollars in the bank. I have never heard of such a thing. Most the members left, but we have never been more at peace in our Church. We are all of one accord and one mind. My husband and Clifford, my best friends husband, took turns taking care of services until we got a pastor 7 months later. My little brother is the Pastor now and he was studying the head covering the same time I was, so his wife covers. It is wonderful and great. I give God all the Glory. We have been blessed so much and have such sweet fellowship. I know this is a long story, but it shows how God works. Just stand on his word. We should always listen to God rather than men.

Love in Christ, Rena Kay ;D

You are most welcome, Bro Ben....and thank you. It is good to share such stories with Christians. I know other Christians have paid a way bigger price than I will ever pay. It is hard to imagine paying a price that great because of the religious freedom our country still allows. I believe that this experience was to prepare me for a worse day. A day that isn't here yet, but will be. A day where one day, I may have to give my life to keep my head covering unto God. It is kinda like what God did for David. Goliath wasn't Davids first giant. God had helped him prepare for Goliath by putting David through some lesser trials, such as a lion and bear. The working of Davids faith in God and seeing God come through with the other giants gave David confidence to face the biggest giant of all. That is what our trials do for us. The Bible says in Ephesians 3:1 ¶ For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
14 ¶ For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

What a blessing God is to us!!!!

Thank you Sister for sharing those things. It warms my h eart when someone gleans something from the Bible and then decides to follow what they have learned. Compromising on our values learned from the Bible can only bring pain.

The title of your post almost exactly matches one of my favorite songs that I have sung in Church a few times. Let me share it with you:

In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howls above me, and there's no hiding place.
'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Many times Satan whispered, "There is no need to try,
For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by"
But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

When the long night has ended and the storms come no more,
Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore;
In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I
Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

In Christ,
George

Bro George. Great minds think alike. That song was also the reason for the title. Praise God for such encouragement. I wish I could hear you sing the song.

Thanks for your reply.

My wife and I have an interest in head covering but no one in our church covers. Your story is a good one. God is patient with us. Did you manage to convert everyone to head coverings in your church or do just a few do it?
