Salvation for All
Are there any who believe they are so bad they cannot be saved? Are there any who believe they have done so many things God cannot forgive them? If so, please allow me to show you by using God’s Holy Word, the Bible, that you can be saved. There is hope. As it is said sometimes, “Hope springs eternal.”
Let us paraphrase this verse so we can understand exactly what it says. When we didn’t have any strength and were weak, at the proper time, Christ died for the wicked. Now in the Bible it does not differentiate. There is no saying here that some are too wicked or evil to be saved. It says Christ died for the ungodly. Ungodly means wicked. The wicked are the unsaved. Christ died at the proper time to save us all.
What an incredible promise we see here! He, Jesus, said to Paul, He has enough grace. Grace means the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life of people. Christ says He has enough grace. Again there is no distinction and no one is left out. He further goes on to say that His strength, the things He can do for us, is made perfect or complete when we are weak. Who is weaker than a lost sinner? No one. The Bible says we cannot do anything good or worthy when we are not saved. In Acts 1:8 we are told that we will receive power AFTER the Holy Spirit is come upon us. The Holy Spirit comes upon us from outside. He provides power or strength. Until we receive the Holy Spirit, which happens at the time of Salvation, we have not power.
It must be understood that Paul was one of the most heinous of people in the Bible before he was converted to Christianity. Paul was a persecutor of Christians putting them in jail and worse. Paul, who at the time was known as Saul, stood by and watched as Steven was martyred. (Acts 22:20)
The Son of man, Jesus, has power on earth to forgive sins. Notice it does not say some sins or most sins or a few sins, it says sins. Period. When we come to the point of repentance, which is merely a changing of our mind from wickedness and being lost to accepting Christ as our Saviour, our sins are forgiven. All of them we have committed to that point.
And they (the Gentiles,) were all astonished and talked to themselves, saying what a word (thing,) is this (what Jesus spoke.) For (because,) with authority (mastery or jurisdiction,) and power (mighty work,) he (Jesus,) commendeth (ordered,) the unclean spirits (impure mental dispositions,) and they (the impure spirits,) come out. Let us put that together as a paraphrase. (Please understand I am not attempting to rewrite the Bible, merely attempting to make it easier to understand.)
And the Gentiles were all astonished and talk to themselves, saying what a thing is that. Because with mastery or jurisdiction and mighty works Jesus ordered the impure mental dispositions and the impure spirits come out.
Praise God that Jesus Christ has the power and authority to remove all of our unseemliness. No matter the state of our being or our mental condition, Jesus can cause us to be clean by removing the impurities. All we have to do is believe!
Wow! As many as received him. That means every single one that accepts Christ. The word received here literally means seized. He gave them power or authority to become the sons, literally adopted siblings, of God. What is the qualification? We see it in the final phrase of the verse. To them that believe on his name. That means to them (all of them,) that believe (trust,) on (concerning,) his name (authority.)
Put it back together again as a paraphrase. Every single person that seizes the opportunity to trust Christ, he gives them all the power or authority to be adopted siblings of God. To all of them that trust concerning his authority.
Please understand I am not being sacrilegious or anything like that by omitting the capital letters when referring to Jesus. They are not in the original text as shown by the copied verses.
Let us look a little farther for the assurance that Christ WILL accept us no matter what kind of life we have lead or are leading.
(Romans 10:9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(Romans 10:10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
(Romans 10:13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Wow!!! Did you see that last verse? Look at it again. Whosoever, that means anyone, that calls upon the name of the Lord shall be what? Saved!!! If you look at the things written about John 1:12 you will see the definitions of the authority of Christ.
Please also understand that Jesus Christ is the name of our Saviour prior to being raised on the third day. Christ or Christ Jesus is his name after the resurrection. It is a title given to him. In the Bible you will see the name Christ or Christ Jesus used after his resurrection much more often then the name Jesus or Jesus Christ.
All in all what we see is that no one can be so terrible or unclean or immoral that Jesus will not save you. The Bible says He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to Salvation.
In Christ,
George
