Dear Ladies, I was wondering if any one else uses cloth diapers? If you do I would love to hear what works for you. In Christ, Michelle

Hi Michelle, I used cloth diapers on my daughter, who is now 16...let's see what I can remember. I think I bought the birdseye flannel ones and used a liner in the diaper to keep them cleaner. The liners were blue, but I don't remember if they were a certain brand or not. I've read that in the old days, the women would put a scrap of material in the diaper to help keep them from staining so much. I used regular nylon diaper covers and washed them with the diapers. I think I had about 3 dozen diapers and maybe 1/2 doz covers. At night, I would use two diapers. I think I rinsed them twice to get out all the soap to prevent rashes and also changed them more frequently. I only used disposibles when we were going to town, we lived on a ranch 60 miles from the nearest town at the time she was a baby, so it was handy to have some throw aways. I hope that helps a little. I just searched for diaper folding and found a page on mothering.com for folding diapers. www.mothering.com/discussions/printthread.php?t=65044Have fun!!! Beverly

I used cloth diapers with my fist child, hes 18 1/2 now! Boy how time flys. I did like Beverly, I remember I had a diaper pail I used to fill with water and viniger ( I do not remember if I added baby detergent or not, I think I did) , I would wash out the diaper in the camode then in the sink, then I'd put plastic pants and diaper in the pail to soak until it was time to wash. I loved hanging them on the close line to dry the sun made them so white and clean. I would suggest hanging them on the close line. I used to use some borax in my wash ( maybe in my pail too, I forget. It's been a long time. You can dump the pail water and all into your washer. It's good to add vinegar to your rinse water also. I hope this is helpful. Beverly, I like that site, thats how I folded my diapers! Those were good memories, but I am thankful for disposable, we travel alot and I would have a stinky van. ;D Have a great day!

I am so glad that I am cloth diapering now. I do use liners but they are hard to come by. Walmart sold all they had and I bought them out. I am looking into getting a new kind of diaper. It is called a woneroo. It fits from size 8-40 lbs. ;D It has snaps that you adjust as neede. with two soon to be three in diapers I was hoping to find something that would simplify our diapering needs. Michelle

I used cloth diapers as well, I did as Sister Darlene did, having a pail with water and I used baking soda in mine..and a little detergent..My son never had diaper rash, and I handwashed ALL of our clothing and diapers as well, never using the washing machine..I did use very little bleach however, and the diapers lasted a long time.
They made great cleaning rags once the diapering stages were done...I know you could buy cloth diapers from a diaper service for very low cost, you could also check out that option.

I am currently cloth diapering my 20 mo daughter. We use a wide range of diapers. I have some prefolds that I use with covers I have bought. I also have some all-in-ones that I use when we are out and about. I also use pocket diapers when we are out doing errands. I have bought almost all my diapers on ebay or from work at home moms.
To wash them I just throw them in a dry pail with a pail liner. I toss everything in the washer and do a cold rinse and spin. Then I do a sanatary wash and extra rinse. If it is nice enough outside I do hand them to dry but most of the time I run them through the dryer.

Hello, I used cloth diapers for my daughter who is 13 now. I soaked them in the diaper pail with a little detergent. I washed them in the machine everyday and ran them through the cold water rinse cycle twice. She had one diaper rash from an antibiotic they gave her. I checked her diaper every 15 minutes and if it was wet at all I changed it. They say disposables are the largest single item in the landfill and they are awfully expensive. I always doubled up on the diapers so we never had any leaks.
