Dear Brother Ben...I have a question.... Why do so many pastors and Christians say that certain passages of scripture was written for the time it was written or for the culture of that day? In reality all scripture was written to a particular church during the time it was written, but wasn't it also written for all time? Examples: Head coverings, foot washing, Holy kiss, anointing of oil, and I am sure there are many others, I have been told that these were written for that time or culture I have been a Christian for a long time and have been told so many different interpretations of the bible my head is ready to explode... I guess what I don't understand is why so many seemingly well educated Christians want you to believe that all scripture was written for us today, but scriptures that make them maybe feel uncomfortable (head covering, foot washing, etc) was written for that particular time in history? What I really don't understand and I know this subject has been exhausted, is the fact that Paul spent 16 verses talking about head covering, but so many say it was written strictly for the Corinthian church and their culture, if that is so then every book in the bible was written for someone else, but not us???If you have any answers for my venting I would greatly appreciate it.... Thanks...........Love and prayers....Sis Debbie

Sister Debbie, I am not Brother Ben but one thing I like to do when people tell me something like that is ask them just exactly who it is who determines what parts of the Bible (especially the New Testament) we are to ignore and which parts we are to live by? Then I ask them just exactly how they determine that.
One of the worst is the attitude that the prohibition of the Bible against women teachers and women pastors is a thing of the past and is not meant for this day and age.
Every single word of the Bible was written to benefit every single one of us. If it were not so not only would God have told us but it would not be in His Bible.
In Christ, George

We must get away from the "cultural" interpretation excuse. The Bible is a heavnly book. It comes to us from the mind of God. If He in His infinite wisdom thought it profitalbe for us to learn of foot washing, head covering, the kiss of charity, etc., then we should take heed to those things lest we be found in the sin of omission, that is to say, omitting things God meant for us to do. We give the "new version" crowd the riot act because they have the outright audacity to omit scripture from the word of God, but aren't we practical new versionists when we "omit" things from scripture by deeming them "cultural" and not necessary for our day? Indeed we are. Exo 35:1 And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them.
Deu 4:1 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
Deu 7:11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
Deu 11:22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;
Deu 17:19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
Deu 19:9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
Deu 27:26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Deu 28:13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
Psa 103:18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
Jer 11:4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
Jer 11:6 Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
Eze 20:21 Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
Joh 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Do you get the hint? Let's quit making excuses in regards to consistent Bible reading, prayer, godly living, modesty, etc. and get down to DOING THEM. God is less interested in our "fitting in" than he is being conformed to His image.
