Southern Baptist Convention Leader Rogers Dies Tuesday, November 15, 2005 MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Rev. Adrian Rogers, a three-time president of the Southern Baptist Convention and leader of a conservative takeover of the faith, died early Wednesday in Memphis. He was 74. His death was announced on the Baptist Press News Web site and on Rogers' own Web site. Officials with the Nashville-based Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee didn't immediately return calls seeking comment. Rogers was hospitalized earlier this month with pneumonia and cancer, his Web site said. Rogers was elected president in 1979 as part of the conservative takeover of the convention. Rogers' election turned out to a be a watershed moment for the denomination, and the 16 million member group shifted dramatically to the right politically and theologically. In the years that followed, conservative leaders pushed hard against abortion rights, homosexuality and women pastors. He was a good man. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Bro. Rogers and received a tremendous blessing. Heaven's gain, our loss.

I agree br. Ben. I mentioned this to a couple of brethren of mine and got funny looks because he was in the SBC. But he stood firm on the KJB and preached right on target doctrinally, as far as I've ever heard him.
He will be sorely missed, but envied.
God bless his family and dear wife.
Br. Tony

Amen, Bro. Ben. There were many days when I was in a very "desert" place and I would switch on the radio to listen to an incredible "message-just-for-me" from Bro. Rogers. He was a great encouragement to me. Praise the LORD he is out of pain and with the Saviour!
