Homemade laundry detergent and baby wipes!
Baby Wipes 1 roll paper towel-cut in half-use a good quality paper towel, bounty or Viva work well 2 cups warm water 2 tbsp baby oil 1 tbsp baby bath
Place paper towels in container, mix water and bath and oil and pour over towels, keep covered and remember there are no preservitives so they will go sour if kept too long. This has never been a problem for us,just wanted to mention it!
Laundy soap
1 cup grated Fels Naptha soap-other bar soap will work 1/2 cup Borax 1/2 cup Washing Soda
Mix together and use 1 tbsp per regular load Some people add dry bleach

Hi Glenda,
What kind of soap do you make? I would like to try making lye soap. I have gone so far as to buy some lye and some lard, but haven't gotten the courage up to mix it all together yet. If you have any recipes I would like to see them and maybe try them

Linda,
I hear ZOTE works well we use it as a stain remover by rubbing the bar of soap on garment then with water working it in then wash this works well
I still would like to make my own detergent does it work well?
Thank you for the recipe!

I found Zote at WalMart and tried it. Well, I didn't actually get to trying it as I threw it away. I didn't like the smell of it. It smelled like petroleum to me. It could just be me tho....lol

I just thought of something else, I just started using rags and towels instead of paper towels. I know a lot of people already do this, but I didn't know how much I could save by not using them! Linda

The best site I can recommend for the beginning soap maker is (I hope it's okay to post this link millersoap.com/). Lots of great soap recipes there. Feel free to ask soaping questons. I'm happy to help. I too use the homemade laundry concoction. We have been very happy with it. We also use vinegar in the rinse instead of any type of fabric softener. Really makes soft clothes and linens.

SORRY I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO POST YET. SOMEHOW I MISSED YOUR POST. ANYWAY I MAKE GLYCERIN SOAP. THE MELT AND POUR TYPE. I DO WANT TO MAKE SOME LYE SOAP HOWEVER I JUST HAVE NOT HAD THE TIME. I HAVE TO BE REAL CAREFUL WITH SOAP MY HUSBAND HAS A PROBLEM WITH ANYTHING BUT THE PURE GLYCERIN SOAP. IT WORKS REAL WELL. WE USE ESSENTIAL OILS IN THEM AND SOMETIMES I ADD COLORINGS. THEY ARE VERY EASY JUST MELT AND POUR INTO YOUR MOLDS. I HAVE SOME MOLDS THAT ARE JUST CANDY MOLDS. WHEN I FIND THEM I BUY THEM AT YARD SALES, AND THRIFT STORES OR AT THE LOCAL HOBBY LOBBY ON CLEARANCE.

I THOUGHT I WOULD TYPE OTHER WAYS WE SAVE MONEY. MANY OF THESE YOU MIGHT KNOW SOME YOU MIGHT NOT. I BELIVE THAT A PENNY SAVED IS A PENNY YOU HAVE. NOW SOME OF THESE WON'T SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY BUT IT WILL SAVE ON OUR WORLD
1. SAVE ONION BAGS OR THE KNITTEN BAGS OFF TURKEYS AND USE THEM FOR POT SCRUBERS THEY WORK GREAT AND THEY ARE FREE
2. SAVE ALL THOSE OLD CANDLES THAT HAVE MELTED DOWN THE CENTER OR THE TAPERS THAT HAVE BROKEN. PLACE THEM IN A DOUBLE BOILER AND MELT DOWN. SAVE WICKS AND REUSE THEM IN NEW CANDLES. ADD YOU ESSENTIAL OIL YOU WISH AND POUR A LITTLE AT A TIME IN SMALL CANNING JAR OR CONTAINER. ALLOW TO COOL AND ADD MORE MELTED WAX. THIS KEEPS THEM FROM SINKING IN THE MIDDLE. KEEP GOING UNTIL YOU HAVE FILLED THE JAR. NOW YOU HAVE A NEW CANDLE. WE MAKE THESE IN HUNDREDS AT A TIME. WE SAVE ALL OUR OLD JARS AND REFILL THEM ONLY ONCE A YEAR. THIS MAKES IT NICE WHEN YOU WANT TO GIVE A GIFT OR YOU JUST NEED CANDLES TO LIGHT YOUR WAY.
3. BUY FOOD IN LARGE AMOUNTS EXAMPLE FLOUR. GO TO WALMART AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU BUCKETS FREE OR FOR A LITTLE PRICE IN THE BAKERY WASH AND DRY THESE REAL WELL STORE YOUR SUPPLY IN THEM THEY HAVE A SEAL TO HELP KEEP BUGS OUT. WE LABEL THEM ON THE OUTSIDE AND KEEP ALL KINDS OF STUFF IN THEM, FLOUR, SUGAR, COFFEE BEANS, PINTOS, NAVY BEANS, GREAT NORTHERN BEANS, BLACK EYE PEAS, BROWN SUGAR, POWDER SUGAR, GRITS, OATS, CREAM OF WHEAT, RICE,AND POWDER MILK. AS WE RUN OUT OF ONE BUCKET WE REFILL IT. THIS HELPS KEEP OUR FOOD BILL REAL LOW.
4. TELL PEOPLE YOUR NEED. YOU WILL BE THROWN BACK HOW MANY PEOPLE DO NOT CAN FRUITS THEY HAVE IN THERE YARD. MOST WILL BE GLAD TO HAVE YOU GET THEM AND PUT THEM UP FOR FREE. WE HAVE GOTTON PEARS, APPLES, WALNUTS, PECANS AND MANY OTHER THINGS BY JUST LETTING PEOPLE KNOW.
5. ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS I HAVE FOUND THAT SAVES US A LOT OF MONEY IS TO KNOW THE PRICES OF THE STUFF YOU BUY. EXAMPLE. WE USE HERBAL TEA. IT COST ABOUT 2.00 A BOX NORMALLY. I FOUND IT THE OTHER DAY AT A DEALS ( LIKE A DOLLAR STORE) FOR A DOLLAR A BOX. WE BOUGHT EVERY BOX WE COULD FIND.
WELL THIS IS JUST A COUPLE OF IDEAS

I hope it's okay to post this link millersoap.com/). Dear Abbie, Yes this is fine. Great site! Any helpful web site are fine and welcome here as long as it honors the Lord. ( If it contains something ungodly or questionable don't post it.) I don't think there will be a problem were all like minded here. We all seek modesty, and godly living as a whole. I want to make soap! I'll start with glicerine it sounds fun.

OK, did i read that that laundry detergent u guys make only calls for a tablespoon per load??? I'm spending about $16 every 3 mos on Tide Laundry detergent, and about $14 every 3mos on fabric softeners. I tried using the cheapo brand detergent, like Purex, and i have come to one conclusion: Purex is so pure i doubt there's even any detergent in there at all!! LOL Just thick blue water is all it is... My clothes never smelled clean, and stains still very visible while using that. I dunno, is it cheaper to buy all the ingredients to make your own detergent than it is to buy it ready made? And any bar soap will work for this home made stuff? Sherri

LOL No really, ummm thanks for your all you wonderful advice. I am amazed at how much knowledge there is to be learned from you awesome ladies! Sherri

I have to share this good news of my new low water bill. Three months ago my water bill had reached an all time high of $90!! I decided it was time to take action. I shut the water off to a dripping faucet until it could be fixed and that brought it down to around $70. This past month I used my old wringer washer I would say at least 90 percent of the time. The water bill I received in the mail today was only $45! I almost could not believe my eyes. Praise the Lord for His goodness. This will be good incentive for those lazy days when I would rather just use my automatic washer.
