I know that this is a very old thread, but I wanted to add my two cents worth. I thinks it's great that you all sew, and I am just getting started. A couple of weeks ago I bought a sewing machine, and made a skirt and matching scarf. Right now I'm working on a dress with a matching scarf. I got to thinking, and realized that I've never made a dress before. I haven't sewed for probably fifteen years. My sewing machine then wasn't very good. Seemed like every time I took it out to do something I had to take it in and get it worked on. It's been so long that this new fangled invention called "fusible interfacing" kind of threw me for a loop until I realized that the paper comes off!! I had the facing sewed on before I figured that out!! ;D Anyway, I think it's really sweet of you all to trace off your patterns and mail them to each other, and I was wondering if you would send me a copy of the pattern that you use, Darlene? Any directions you can think of would also be appreciated. I read where you said that you are about a 16, and so am I. If you don't mind, I will email you my address if you tell me too. I do like what I can see of that blue dress. It looks nice and plain and simple to make too, I hope !!! The one with the vest looks nice too. I really like the idea of a vest to cover what the dress might not. Thanks so much, Linda

I've finished my dress!! I know that it took a few days longer than I expected, but on Tuesday I put it away because I HAD to finish cleaning the apartment. You see, we live in subsidized housing, and on Thursday the manager and a vp from the company that manages all the complexes in the area were going to go through all the apartments in our complex because HUD is coming through sometime next month, so I put everything away and didn't get back to it until yesterday. I just wanted to say "never mind about the pattern" to Darlene. My DS (it's just the two of us) has told me that he would like for me to make a dress with a bodice of a different color than the skirt. He has pretty good taste so next time I'm going to give that a shot. Since the pattern calls for 3 1/2 yards of fabric, I figure that I need about a yard or a yard and a quarter of a matching fabric to make the bodice. Do you think that should take care of it? Thanks in advance to all you wonderful, experienced seamstresses. Linda

It's so nice to finish a project isn't it . I'm a begginner in sewing so I don't have an answer to your question but a lot of these ladies are experts when it comes to sewing. I'm sure they can help.

Yes, it is great to finish. However, I am going to try to do some work on this pattern. The neckline, while still modest, is too wide and I had a hard time keeping my slip covered. I pinned it to my bra, but when I got home from church, I noticed that a little of the lace had snuck out. Also, I think I'm going to make the skirt more A lined. The pattern's skirt is gathered, and I'm a little too big to have all those gathers in front!!! Any tips on this little endeavor would be greatly appreciated. Oh, well. Maybe I should just stick to skirts and jumpers. I'm going to try to do this re-work on the pattern. If it doesn't work out, I'm just going to live in skirts and jumpers. I have a new pattern for a jumper that looks pretty simple. Linda

Sis Debbie, Yes, I am also waiting for BroBen and SisDarlene to get their computer fixed. I know that this place will liven up considerably when they are back. I also think that Darlene can answer my questions. It sounds like we may be waiting as much as a week to be able to talk with them again. What a bummer!! I saw in the other post that you are praying about it, as am I. Linda

Dearest Linda,
I will be glad to send you my pattern, it is gathered but I think it looks nice, I am not thin either.
As for the neck being too big...I would lay your bodice pattern on a piece of wrapping paper or Freezer paper and trace off another pattern using the pattern you have but making the neck hole a little smaller. We alter alot of our patterns.
If you would like a copy of my pattern please send me your address through my PM. I can send some simple instructions, like lay on fold, or this is front bodice or back bodice etc. If you have questions you are welcome to call my house, I can call you back and pay for the long distance call, we have a good long distance plan that is one paid price (it's cheap).
If I have overlooked a question please let me know.
Have a great day sister, I'm glad you are an active part of our site here. It is so good to be back.
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~
