Jump in brothers. Discussion challenges the intellect and stirs the spirit. Don't let the sisters have all the fun.

It's hard to know where to start. I have had many things tumbling through my mind lately.
I have been trying to examine my heart, attitude, and the things that drive me. Both myself and my bride strive to be more Christ-like. However, I don't want to be like those who worship only with their lips.
My Bible reading took me through Ezekiel 8 today. That is the passage where the Lord shows the prophet his Temple, and all the idolatrous abominations that were performed in it. Those phony worshippers later died by the sword of God's judgment, that began in His house.
How many of us are guilty of bringing our own "idols" into God's house every Sunday morning? I will readily admit to sometimes thinking about other things sometimes during the service, such as getting the lawn mowed, where we are going to have lunch afterward, or even where the #20 car is going to start in the race that afternoon! Shame on me.
If our thoughts, and hearts, are not with God in the church, we stand guilty just like the "worshippers" in Ezekiel 8. I certainly will be thinking about THAT next Sunday.

David, I was listening to J. Vernon McGee today while working and he was going through Ezekiel. He made some great observations. Bro. McGee said, Judah was applying the bandade of religion to the cancer to sin and God was going to bring judgment of Jerusalem to rip it off and deal with their sin. Wow! That some heavy study while working on a cement truck. I was blessed. Ol' Bro. McGee is almost always a blessing. He said Ezekiel is one of the most neglected books of the Bible when it comes to good in depth study. I was provoked to consider studying this O.T. book.

It is interesting that J. Vernon McGee would use that reference because that is exactly what Jeremiah 6:14 says. The priests treated Judah's mortal wound superfically, which accomplished nothing.
I would dare say that many of the prophets are neglected these days. Unless a good "sound bite" can be pulled out of them, they are almost never talked about from the pulpit in many churches.
It is a shame that there is so little expository preaching done in churches these days. We are blessed to be able to sit under the preaching of Dr. Jerry Vines on Sunday nights (our church is one that has no Sunday night service), and he is currently preaching through James.
I continue soldier on through the OT, and it has been a most fruitful journey.

Greetings and Salutations in the matchless name of Jesus, First posting! My family and I currently attend a church that seems to preach more nascar and football than anything. Over half of the Sundayschool hour is devoted to breakfast and sports talk.(My Pastor is my Sundayschool teacher) I have even tried to steer the conversation in a spiritual direction with no success. My wife brought the subject of headcoverings to me. She asked me what I thought of it. We spent many sweet hours studying the Bible together and came to the conclusion that it was definitely something she needed to do. We are curious however about many of the families that do the headcovering, their younger daughters do not wear them. When should the younger girls begin to wear them? RE: Gen. 24:65, 1Cor. 11

We don't have a concrete formula, but we do let our daughter start covering all the time after they get saved. However, sometimes, the little girls want to wear a covering and as a brother put to me, why not let them practice the beauty of such a testimony as the covering. So, we let the girl who have not gotten saved yet cover on occasions.
As to the Nascar stuff and etc, ad nausium in Sunday School, welcome to the last days of American Christianity without revival. Our churches are like a dying man lying in bed, heaving for another breath, waiting for the return of the Lord or death.
"And now for a little space grace hath been [shewed] from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. " Ezra 9:8
Someone needs to start moving together and start some churches of raise our children in, dear brethren.
