Sister Debbie, you are very right in what you say. However I believe there is a large difference in the kind of reading material we purchase and the things we watch for entertainment than comparing those with shopping in WalMart and places like that.
For example...I have to eat. Tha is just the way God made me. There is not a grocery store anywhere around here that does not sell alcohol. So am I going to starve myself so I don't go into a store that sells alcohol?
By the same token I sometimes have to take presecription medications for health reasons. I cannot think of a pharmacy in the area that does not sell Playboy and other such disgusting magazines. So do I allow my health to suffer for fear of seeing those magazines on sale?
Now if you speak to places that make alcohol their prime source of income or that call themselves "newstands," and often these days, "bookstores," as their primary source of income, of course I don't belong in there.
The true test is whether or not whatever it is, is a sin for me or if it could cause me to sin. If the answer is no then it is okay for me to be there. If the answer is yes or even, "I don't know," then I do not belong there.
Now as far as companies you may not want to support, it is obvious you have a computer. Do some research. It is really easy to use Google to find out what all companies the Disney company either owns or controls. It is really easy to find out why you should not shop in Target.
I believe that if we go into the situation prayerfully we will prosper in that decision.
Yours in Christ,
George
