"To hear some people talk, one would think that being a Christian is little better than being in prison or being hog-tied and hobbled." Bill Rice 1912-1978
This came through with a daily verse email I receive and it's had me thinking (my Spurgeon devotional followed those lines exactly as well....I'm being told something here I think! )
I would have to agree [with his comment] that most people would agree with that. Churches aren't preaching the deeper sermons, delving into the meatier Scriptures, or even discussing that there are specifics for a Christian life, wholly devoted to Christ, self-dying in all aspects, etc. People want feel-good religion, no convictions that mean even a compromise let alone a true heartfelt change in their day-to-day lives.
Psalms 145:7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Why is it, Christians...especially Christians, I should say...have a hard time giving themselves over wholly to Christ and the Scriptures, living the life laid out so clearly for them, seeing the Promises He has given them as His Followers...knowing there is a better end out there to those who choose to follow 100% and devote their hearts to Him?
Maybe that is the issue right there...for those who choose to follow Him We don't make that choice in all areas, do we? We want to offer a compromise...I will devote my life in this area...if I can continue with this thing or that thing. We make excuses...for that stupid television, those choices in music, that preference in dress...thinking it's all right, He knows my heart in the matter. He knows I'm really a good person, and I'm devoted in (....) areas of my Christian life. It's OK if I do this or that as long as my heart is right.
Is our heart truly right if we hold back in some areas? How will we explain to Our Lord, at the Day of Judgment, how we lived our lives of compromise? Can it even be explained?
Mat 7:20 Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.
Mat 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will tell me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?'
Mat 7:23 Then I will tell them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.'
Just some wandering thoughts this morning. My 'food for thought' and prayer musings in my own life What do you think? Maybe I should have posted it in another section if I wanted a discussion
Humbled and ashamed of my compromises,
Deanna
