February 15 th 2005 we recieved a Spitz ( American Escimo ) puppy that was 10 wks old. When we went to pick him up there were 7 to choose from I pulled aside 3, the one we ended up taking home choose me by chasing off the other dogs. He did this time and time again. We all laughed and said '' he's choosing us''. We took the little guy home he was so smart a fast lerner. He became our inside dog. What a joy he was in so many ways. Our little friend. I'm an animial lover by nature, but I haven't felt so happy about a dog sence I was young. Most dogs become a bother.
He also chose his name. I'm not kidding he really did. When we would choose a name for him he would not even acknowlage we were speeking to him.( we said'' he had selective hearing'' We'll it took us two weeks to find the perfect name. We named him Sherman. When we called out his new name he perked up, turned around, and ran over to me all happy. We laughed so hard, because he even picked his name. This little dog bonded with each of us in a special way.
An Americian Escimo ( Spitz ) is a medium size, medium long hair, PURE WHITE dog with a black nose and eyes, ( sometimes the nose can be pink, and some times the fur can be buff in colar ) Sherman was pure white with little black eyes and nose. He looked like a baby White Seal. Precious!
Last Thursday June 2 nd it was around 5:30 pm still very light out side. For some reason Sherman was out in the street looking at the Tennessee Walking horses across the street. Our drive way is 365 ft long. He usually stayed up around our house. I was talking to Ben on the cell phone when I spotted him. I yelled out to him ( Sherman! Come here! ) He was very interested in the horses so he decided not to come, all the sudden I heard a car racing down our road, we live on a straight away. I yelled out there going to kill my dog! The car never stopped they honked startled Sherman, then they ran him over all we herd was a yelp. Benjamin ran very fast down the drive way I ran too. When I got to the end of the drive way, Benjamin was holding poor Sherman in his arms. Sherman was gagging and rithing in pain, all the sudden I smelled a strange oder, I said ''I smell Death'' all the sudden he was still. There was no blood or any thing. We did not have to shoot him to put him out. He just died. I am thankful for that.
This was so painful for me. It really effected me. I cried bitterly ( though I was not bitter just deeply in pain and much loss.) Ben decided to take us out to Ci Ci's Pizza to help the family cope a little better. All our children were there when he got hit. I cried the entire time. I still miss him today..... He was the best, and smartest dog I've ever owned.
The Lord did help me to stop crying and He helped me through my great loss. Sounds silly, hugh? to cry ''so much'' over a dog. I thought it was silly too, but the pain was very real.
On Tuesday June 7 th (mine and Bens 19 th anniversary) just 5 days after Shermans death, Benjamin said ''Mama I found a 7 mo old male Spitz puppy with papers'', in the papper. He said '' the lady is moving and she has to get rid of him because the her new place doesn't allow pets''. He said ''she will sell him for $100.oo dollars, and I wan't to buy him for you!'' Wow! That's some kind of gift and alot of money to be spending. I told him I would be able to tell by looking at him if he was bread good or not. We went, the dog was so nice perfectly bulit and every thing. Praise the Lord.
We took him home we introduced him slowly one at a time to the children and he absoulty loves us. He was cooped up in a small apt all day all alone while his master worked...... These dogs need lots of space to exersize and they need people. His name was Nicholas she got him for christmas. I decided he needed a new name. I started thinking and trying out names, he didn't respond to the names I came up with. I thought of a great one that just fits him Danny Boy! '' Danny'' for short, He liked it! He rsponded every time. I guess spitz dogs like to choose there name.
The lady put Nicholas/ Danny in the papper the morning after Sherman died, and they were only 1 mo 6 days apart. Isn't God good!
Danny is working out great! Were so blessed and the pain of loosing Sherman is healing. I still do not understand why all this had to happen, but it will be ok. Things do not ''always'' seem to turn out this good. I felt compelled to share this with everyone.
