We have a similar tool - the "healthy eating plate." It is based on the same fallacy that our diet should be based around carbohydrates.
They aren't just a danger for diabetics, who are told to use that model diet, but for everybody - eat complex carbs has become a health mantra, & the obesity epidemic spirals out of control.
The pyramid should be redesigned as a square:
Milk, Yogurt and Cheese......|... Meat, Poultry, Fish, Eggs and Nuts
Vegetables..........................|......Fruit
As I have commented elsewhere, cutting carbs has restored my active life from a potentially disabling condition.
