I'm starting to get my son's school work together for this next year. I was interested in what you all use for your children when it comes to their school work. I'm trying to find some printable handwriting pages that I can print out for my son. His handwriting is awful. .. His printing is great, but cursive is not. For math, I'm going to try Math U See this year. He is having such a hard time with math. I'm not sure what I will do for science, history, or language. What are you all using? ;D

Thanks for the links. .. We have used Saxon in the past as well as Abeka. My daughter loved Abeka, but my son seems to have trouble with it. I'm thinking I might try Rod and Staff or CLP. I'm not sure yet. and I don't have much time either.. ;D

Currently, Andrea, We are using Rod & Staff homeschool curriculum. But I am going to try this year to make a switch?? To the Charolette Mason way of homeschooling using living books. I am going to start using Answers In Genesis for their science curriculum. I might even get Answers In Genesis Preschool program. Charolatte Mason people suggest using Math U See and real living books for history or any subject really.

Hi, Well first we homeschool year round in our home. Mainly because it gives us the opportunity to have tha times off we need while still accomplishing the yearly goals. We school 8 weeks on then two weeks off. Then we take the last 3 weeks of December off and the first week of January. It seems there is so many opportunities to send a gospel witness that time of year that we take every chance at hand. People are more receptive also. The first week in January is my planning week. I plot the years schooling out and we run a normal January through December school year rather than a September through May/June.
Having a homestead takes work so summer and harvest school is usually half day and also we use a natural approach to learning skills. Kidding time in the Spring brings lots of learning and questions! Gardening and Canning are great learning tools.
Our favorite is Christ Centered Curriculum. Amazing for K-2 grade. With the use of this fine curriculum and the grace of our God my son could fluently read tha Holy Scriptures by the time he was 5. I cannot express enough how we love this curriculum. The only regret we have is that they do not have anything after the 2 nd grade level.
We now use Rod and Staff for formal arithmetic, Spelling and English. We lapbook and notebook, Use many unit studies and have fun with godly poetry. We delve into lots of old literature and a bit of the new stuff. Science this year has been considering God's Creation and we are going to use the AIG God's design next year.
Our son does do some work on the PC. He desires to preach the gospel to the lost in South America. So we are allowing him to learn Spanish and Portugese through Rosetta Stone. Let me tell ou it has shown us that our son has a beautiful God given conviction. There was a place where the program was teaching the word swimming and a little boy in trunks. My 8 yo son took a piece of sticky tac and paper and posted it to his PC till the part was over. My heart was so blessed.
We do read alot tof the rod and staff readers as they are pure and wholesome.
Would love to know if any of you have seen or used the signs and seasons by Jay "someone"? It looks interesting.
Kindly~Vanessa

This might be a profound thought, but something we use quite a bit is . . . life. When we see things that are great lessons for our children in society, in the news, at the store, on the side of the road, etc., we use them as "teachable momments."
Another thing that is a blessing is the unique gifts and talents of each child. Several of our children are very gifted at music, but one of them is our "meistro" in the making. Her love of the classics are a blessing because she is able to share with the children about great composers and their music and the time in which it was written.
Not everyone likes classical music, but it is kind of neat when a young child hears a song on the cd player and says, "Hey, that's Beethoven!" It sure beats rap, rock, CCM, and the likes!

We are using Christian Light Publications curriculum as a guide, but as Bro. Ben suggests, children learn a lot more from living life and (I add) reading good books!

We use "My Father's World" because the Charlotte Mason method really speaks to our older son. We also use a lot of real life situations to help him learn. Going to the store is a rich learning environment with numbers, letters, words, math, science, the works. I never stop teaching my children, sometimes I just make them sit down at the table to do it.

Hello: I homeschooled in what my children called the Dark Ages. There were no computers, no internet, no curriculum except ACE and one out of California that was so expensive we could not afford it (we used ACE but my kids hated it). finally when my daughter was in High School they started to have the curriculum fairs and we found a curriculum called Landmark's Freedom Baptist Curriculum. They all loved it. It is a fantastic curriculum that uses a lot of the old books and they are Bible Based all the way down. You might like to check them out. The link is: www.landmarklfbc.com/ They are inexpensive (A subject set which is ALL the materials that you will need to use for a school year for a subject is $40) K 5 is $200 for all materials you need. K3-4 is $35. For 1st -12th for the 6 requried subjects it is $240 a year. If you are a pastor or work in missions they used to give you a discount. Not sure if they do now but it would not hurt to ask. With the love of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah Jackie Schlageter Romans 1:16 A Jew For Jesus
