This is much more of a question and observation rather than a recipe. Have any of you had any experience with hand-made (home-made} ginger "beer?"
Over the last week or so I have been very ill. Last night at church one of the deacons told me it sounded as if I was going to throw up my toenails. As yucky as that sounds it was a pretty good description. My dear wife went to our local Trader Joe's and bought me some Reed's Extra Ginger Brew. It is really full of ginger which is good for an ailing tummy. The usual dose of ginger in capsules you can purchase at a pharmacy or natural foods store is 250mg per capsule. This brew has 26 grams of ginger per bottle. Every once in a while a swig of it tastes downright spicy. But, from the time I first started drinking it I did not throw up once.
So...if any of you have any experience in this line please let me know.

I've never had it home-made, but I did buy some at a health food store and WOW, did it have bite. It was nothing like the regular ginger ale one buys at the grocery store. It actually left your mouth burning as when I eat hot salsa. The brand we got was Reeds Ginger Brew It was really good. NOTE: I thought I'd post JUST IN CASE someone does not understand what George and I are talking about, this is just strong, ginger ale, not BEER or BREW as the old wicked world drinks.

Bro. George, Here is a recipe for homemade ginger ale. Not sure if this is the same as Ginger Beer or Brew. But here you go.
· 2 gallons distilled water · 1 Tablespoon ground Ginger · 2 cups honey · Juice of 4 lemons · ¼ teaspoon dry baking yeast
Directions: Bring the 2 gallons of water to a boil with 1 tablespoon ground Ginger. Allow to cool to lukewarm then strain. Add two cups of honey to the water-Ginger mixture and stir well. Add the juice of four lemons and just ¼ teaspoon of dry baking yeast. Put into absolutely clean gallon jars and cover lightly. Allow to stand for two days. It should be nice and sparkly by now. If it gets too sparkly, refrigerate.

Thank you so much Sister Lisa. What I was terming ginger "beer" is actually called ginger brew. It sounds very similar to what you have given me here. I have since discovered the company "Reed's" make six different flavors including raspberry. Now I am on a quest! I have to teach myself how to make this stuff!

That's the stuff Brother Ben except the flavor I got was called "Extra Ginger Brew." I think that is because it has 26gm of of ginger per bottle. It does h ave a bite to it! I have told everyone I can how well it works on my innards. I am still amazed about it. I have since found out they make six different flavors including the one you have pictured, the one I had and they also have a raspberry and some others. I would have to go back to their web site to check them again.
I also discovered that the Food Maxx, which is where we do most of our grocery shopping is supposed to carry it. If I can find it there it will be quite a bit cheaper than Trader Joe's. They have a nifty locator on the Reed's web site where you can plug in your Zip Code and they will give you the address of all the stores in your area that carry it.
