We started giving Melody goat milk in addition to her Nursing at around 4 months, I am 44 and the baby seemed to need more milk than I was producing. She has done great on fresh goats milk in addition to Nursing.
Our goats are pregnant and one quit giving milk this week and the other gives a little over 2 cups a day.
What to do? Well my friend found a great recipe and it will double our milk supply, we only need 3 or 4 cups (8oz) a day.
It calls for rice milk, you can buy organic Rice Dream, or make your own rice milk.Rice Milk (makes 2 cups) 2 1/2 c cooked rice 2 1/2 c distilled water Blend on low, then strain through cheese cloth. Baby Formula (milk)2 c goat milk 2 c rice milk ( organic Rice Dream) 1 Tb Black Strap Molasses 1 Tb liquid acidophilus (I just open up a capsule ''powder'') 1 Tb flax seed oil or coconut oil (I use coconut oil) Blend on low...Make only one batch at a time you do not want it to go bad before you can use it all. Note: You can add to this if you want to, 1 tsp liquid Vit C 1 tsp liquid CalMag 1/8 tsp powdered wheat germ 16 drops of trace minerals I did not choose to add these last ingredients to mine. You can warm, but do not heat. Enjoy!

I see you wrote this a while ago, but I want to add, that I couldn't breast feed our son, and fed him raw goats milk, whey, liquid vitamins and nutritional yeast.
He got his first cold at almost a year old and his second at 19 months old... Other then that, he has never been sick and is very healthy.
We added no sugar at all.
I have to look up the exact recipe if anyone is interested, I will.
