I have a praise to share, but first a back-story.
A bit over a year ago we returned to home schooling, something my husband was reluctant to do for many reasons but largely due to our financial situation. We have never been financially affluent, which is why (after sending the children to public school due to a severe health issue I suffered many years ago), my husband wanted them to stay in PS and for me to find employment (after I regained my health of course). I reluctantly submitted to the idea of leaving my children in PS and going to work in the public arena as it was the wish of my husband.
God showed us favor and actually gave me a job in the PS system. This meant I could keep an eye on what was going on with my children and in the school system itself. It was an extremely challenging and difficult assignment for me, not the actual work, but suffering the ways of public school (too many outrageous, appalling, heartbreaking incidence to share in a brief time); however those two and a half years opened my husband's eyes to what I had been telling him about the PS system which lead him to prayerfully consider the Lord's will and rethink home schooling and the need for me to be employed out side of the home.
So, in December of 2009 we (after much prayer, discussion and contemplation), left the PS system and returned home, the boys and I; with all four of us convicted that this was God's plan.
I tell that story to say this, my husband just did the taxes yesterday and marveled at the fact that in the past year and a half last year we lost the $22,000 of my salary, he had to take a 10% pay cut to keep his job (everyone that didn't get laid off had to take a pay cut, right up to their president), we have to pay for our curriculum and prices keep going up on even day necessities; YET we are "making it" as he said. I responded with a "Hallelujah! We were faithful to return home as God convicted us to do and He is faithful to supply our needs".
What a blessing to know that giving up worldly things meant gaining godly things. The world has it upside-down and backward, they call us crazy for thinking we would prosper if we relinquished money, but God has provided; and while the world would not see it as abundance (we don't have two big, brand new vehicles in our driveway [both our vehicles are over 10 years old]; we don't have a palatial house [we have a very small 40 year old home]; we can't afford lavish [really any] vacations; we don't eat out ; we can't purchase the newest clothing trends [wouldn't really want to, but most of our clothes are thrift store or hand-me-downs]; we have mostly second hand furniture, appliances etc. in our home; we have a cell phone only because my husband's work pays for it, etc.); YET we know we are and absolutely feel more successful and prosperous than ever before, because we are following God's will and plan.
We spend our time worshipping and fellowshipping as a family, our boys are taught from a biblical perspective, we have had time to learn and practice self sufficient ways of living, and have had more time and opportunities for local mission work; we are blessed immeasurably.
Just had to share that praise.
