To begin let me say that I am a grandma. My granddughter spends much of her time at our house. She stays here so much that I have been given permission from my dd to homeschool her. She is two and half. she can count to fifteen and ten in spanish. she knows her alphabet and can identify them and numbers well. also her colors. she cooks in the kitchen with me and is learning measurements. I am not sure why she likes it here so much becauseshe is expected to work at our house, but she does. I did not homeschool my daughter until high school and so I am not sure when to begin. i hope this isn't too silly, but i don't know when to start or what I should start doing.

If she's only 2-1/2 and already doing that well then you already have begun and begun very well! Congratulations on getting off to a great start. As far as a semi-formal somewhat structured program, we started our youngest this past year in K4. It only takes about 2 hours per day at this age and he's really excited about all he is learning. In case you would like details of the program we're using I'll send you a personal message with our phone # and e-mail so you can contact my wife to see if you'd like to try something like we use.

Thank you so much. She somehow has the concept of school and wants to go to grandma's school That makes me happy when she says that.

You really are doing well. You can get your granddaughter some easy reading books. If you IM me I can also share some great materials to use with your granddaughter. I went to Daddy's School when I was little. He taught me to read by 1 1/2. By Kindergarted I was reading Shakespear. I just loved to read. By starting now when she wants to learn she will learn really fast. It takes a lot longer when they no longer want to learn.

Very well put about teaching while she wants to learn. I did not consider to teach her to read so young but I suppose it has been done and can be. She loves it. When we sing she pretends to read the words and carries her Bible to Bible study (in the living room).
