Hi kscarle, No, I never learned to sew, other than basic needle stitching for repairs. My mom loved sewing. She hasn't felt like sewing for some time though. I really should get a machine and learn. Its a useful skill. I took one sewing class in 7th grade, many years ago.

Dear Sister, I know I only listed one of the areas in the church of concern, but we, hubby and I, don't profess to be any better due to our convictions, I know our dress can influence others especially the sisters as some will ask why, I had that in the past.
We also have financial issues with the amount of travel time to the church and truly want to be closer to our community here.
My husband is also a minister and I respect and value his opinions and his Scripture relation to me, he is so much more advanced at it than I am...
I am sorry if my post came off as being bitter or judgemental, I was just expressing what we observed, we did attend that church for nearly a year however....
God bless Sister Penny

floridamom It does come in handy knowing, but I learned from a seamstress who is the wife of one of our missionaries and a friend...(I haven't been at it as long as some of these ladies and I'm still not much good without a pattern) some of the ladies use bandannas and I have seen this and it does look fairly well, but if you look at wal-mart sometimes where the scarves are they have veil ones and I think these look very nice. They can be folded like a bandanna and are not as stiff.
peacefulheart I do understand the cost of gas and the fact that your husband is able to lead in the worship. I know that we are to judge things, such as right and wrong and we are to not be partakers of wickedness, especially if it could be a problem for men to lust. I don't know the situation, If the leadership allowed such behavior as the norm, I do not believe my husband would allow us to stay. If it is visitors then we would deal with salvation first.
But I try to look back at the way I first appeared To others after I got saved and someone talked to me and helped me. You're right about our dress being a testimony to others and it has been helpful in my witness for Christ. I have been bitter to some in the past and was wrong for the way I went about things. I didn't want any women on here looking for help to think we're being mean. I also think it is a good witness to have children that honor their parents.

Peacefullheart, as a reader I did not think your post was bitter or mean. kscarle, I know some who home church and I know others who don't. I think both are fine and God may call us at different times to do either.
My husband is also a pastor, we are in between churches and at first I loved home church and not attending anywhere but I am a social type person and after a while I really missed attending church with others. Some home churches invite others in that is good to have continued fellowship with other believers. Other home churches are just their family and they do not reach out to others for fellowship. I have a problem with that but those that do it don't. I think it depends on what God is calling you to at the moment.
being without a church since august and looking for one in all denominations (including baptist, ibf, Mennonite, etc) I can honestly say it is hard to find one that meets what we believe to be what God is calling us to. ON the other hand, it is true when we go to some churches we are definitely a witness. So, the question for us is which church does he want us to be a witness in?
It seems for Kscarle, it is the church you are attending, for peacefullheart it is her own home church, for us... we haven't a clue. lol.
right now we are worshiping at the church next door because of gas issues. It is a primitive methodist church. We love the preaching and the people have opened their home to us to live in (we pay rent and utilities) But, we have not really felt welcomed to join their fellowship. So, we continue to search. praying daily for God to show us if and where he wants DH to serve.
I guess I am saying in all this that there are seasons where home church and attending church are appropriate. I would not have said this a year ago though.

Dear Sisters and Brothers, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was very concerned I was coming across as a bitter ole woman in my post and that is not close to what I was trying to say...
My husband has had a strong pull to serve the Lord for many years, way before we met and he took the first steps a few years back and became a minister, he is now looking into another school for Baptists, I do believe I am to obey him and we are a great match in my opinion. I had so much hurt and abuse in my past he came into my life and the Lord opened the doors to my heart to become his wife...
We all have our dreams and aspirations even at our advanced years, 48 & 52 years of age...we are hoping to live "off grid" and be able to share our faith with others, missionary type work in the USA....we are considering foster caring of children.
It has been such a pleasure to read of the testimonys here and just be re-encouraged that there are so many good folks on this board and out there witnessing for our Lord Jesus.
In His Name, with love, Sister Penny

My husband is currently in school, and I attend also. If things continue to worsen and persecution becomes more prominant we may all go back to home churching. I am also social. My husband is a preacher, but not a pastor. I get to attend our church and where my husband preaches.
Our family devotions are also considered church to me because...where two or more are gathered...
I never took you for being mean...I don't post as often since school started back or I would have written that sooner.

Floridamom,
Are there any ladies in the church that can teach sewing? A young man in our class asked my husband if I could teach his wife. Now that someone has asked I feel totally inept, but I will pray and thank the Lord.
A lady in our church wanted to make dresses for her daughters and she doesn't know much about it, but she cut up an old big skirt and hand sewed two skirts out of them. I recommend start with some hand sewing because even with a machine you'll still have to use hand sewing.

Hi,
I'll ask around. At our former church in Orlando, they had a ladies quilting and sewing club. That church is too far away for me to drive, but I can ask around our new church. There are lots of older ladies who may know how. My mom knows how, but lives in another state. If anything, I can buy a simple pattern and hand sew. I also know how to knit, but Florida climate is too warm for sweaters. I was looking into jumpers and simple print dresses like the Duggar children wear.

FloridaMom, Is the Indepent Church you speak of James Knox's church. I know that is one our pastors go to and he comes up a lot for meetings. We like his preaching. I cover because my husband told me to as well as my daughter covered before I did. She had blind faith where I had to study it out and tried to convince dh that I didnt need to cover.

Hi Ginger,
No, our pastor is Jimmy McNeil. We started going there in November. Its a short drive from us and in Kissimmee. I grew up in Atlanta and went to Charles Stanley's church, First Baptist. I was raised Southern Baptist. It was conservative, but people wore regular clothes. I'm sorry to see this new casual trend at churches now. I have seen some really sloppy dressed people on Sunday. Baggy jeans, shaggy hair, sneakers and jogging shorts on a grown man! I'm just happy that Pastor McNeil preaches a biblical gospel. Too many large churches are just motivational speeches or pop psychology. not enough Bible being taught. I tried emailing some pastors last week about the need to preach the gospel and reach the lost. I asked them to listen to Ray Comfort's messages on his website. I only got back 1 reply from 10 e-mails.

If you are close enough to go to James Knox's church, then I also suggest it. Good some preaching and also believes in standards. You can actually listen to him on line and he has this great sermon called "Dress Codes"

Florida mom, do you know how to knit socks? A friend of mine knitted me a pair of socks she made them loose and due to medical reasons I can't wear normal socks the bumps on my legs are now on my feet and ankles too. So, the knitted socks are the only ones I can wear now. I so... want to learn how to knit.
I think when I first shared my testimony on here I did not share about How I came to covering. About 4 years ago God started to convict me on this subject. We were serving in the United Methodist church at the time.(we felt like we were missionaries). Anyway, my heart was pricked and I wanted to learn more about it. so, I began to read and study what I could. Two years ago, I spoke with some Mennonite women about their coverings and one mailed me a covering to wear. At that time we were serving in a Holiness church and they wore coverings in church. This went along with the submissive lessons I was also learning at the time. At first, I admit When I was wearing them in church it was about worship. but, when I first started wearing them at home it was about roles. It was to remind me of my role in the family and to remind DH of his role in the family. I still never wore it out of the house except church. Now of course it is about so much more including God's authority, "for the angels", my husbands authority and place over me. and worship etc. along with the lessons on the headcoverings and the convictions on submissiveness God was showing me also, that not only are Christians suppose to act different from the world but we are to look different from the world also. I do believe someone should be able to look at us and know we are different. As with the head coverings wearing skirts went in stages too. first only at church, then whenever we went anywhere (stores etc) now, all the time even at home. this occurred over a two year period. The last thing God convicted me about was my hair. Honestly, this board is what God used to convict me of that. unfortunately I had already cut my hair so I am now praying for supernatural growth. lol .
