My husband and I cook on the campfire with cast iron pots and pans. Here is a very simple recipe than can also be done in a crock pot.
One pot roast, pork loin or other favorite meat for roasts. One 32 oz bottle of cola or root beer.
Sear the roast in the pot, add as much soda as almost covers the roast and put the lid on. Turn the heat down and let it cook for several hours: longer in the crock pot, shorter on the stove top or on the campfire. The soda helps to tenderize the meat and makes it very moist.
To "turn the heat down" on a campfire we move some of the coals out from under the dutch oven.
