The newest president of the Southern Baptist Convention says it's time for another "Great Awakening" in the United States.
"It's been over 100 years since we've seen the last great shaking, moving of God in this country. That's my prayer," Ronnie Floyd told "Washington Watch" host Tony Perkins recently.
The program airs on American Family Radio.
SBC president Ronnie Floyd , who pastors Cross Church in Arkansas, says he plans to do his best to mobilize pastors and lay people within the SBC to "join this movement of daily praying for spiritual awakening and great awakening in America.
The last Great Awakening occurred before and after the Civil War, led by names such as Dwight L. Moody, Charles Finney, and Henry Clay Fish.
Floyd says the call to prayer is not limited to Baptists, describing a "massive need" bigger than one denomination.
The SBC president invited "Washington Watch" listeners to his self-named website where they can "join the movement" to pray for another Great Awakening.
Floyd became the 60th president of the Southern Baptist Convention in June.
