The atheists themselves are using hate speech to suppress Christianity yet no one speaks about that. We must pray.
'Bless you' ban is just silly, says attorney
The fight isn't over for a Tennessee teen placed in in-school suspension for responding with "Bless you" when a fellow student sneezed.
Sixteen-year-old Kendra Turner stood on her constitutional rights to free speech and religion when teacher Eva Kindle told her that "Bless you" was a forbidden phrase and there would be no "godly speaking" in her classroom. The incident occurred in a business class at Dyer County High School.
Turner is now being represented by Jeremiah Dys, senior counsel at Liberty Institute.
"This is what happens when we've had 30, 40 years now of atheists and secularists demanding that any reference to religion be banished from the schoolyard entirely," the attorney laments. "But students don't lose their First Amendment rights simply when they walk through the schoolhouse gate. They still retain those rights and they have the freedom to express themselves."
Since the school hasn't responded, Dys and his legal firm are evaluating their next move.
Dys, Jeremy (WV Family Policy Council)"Students have to obey the rules of the classroom – but we expect our teachers to follow the rules of the Constitution as well," he tells OneNewsNow. "They're the adults in this situation and we hope that they will quickly realize that this is just a silly thing to be arguing about. [We want them to] make an apology, get rid of this student's in-school suspension from her record, and let's move on."
The situation is so absurd that Dys wonders if the school will tell the football coach to delete "Hail Mary" from the team playbook.
Turner's mother, Shannon, is asking for prayer for her daughter because, while some people have been supportive, non-believers and the secular media have been very critical.
