City under pressure from ACLU encouraged by legal group

Winfield, Alabama, has found a friend in a Christian legal group on the West Coast. The legal group is telling city officials to stand their ground against atheist organizations.
The mayor and city council of Winfield, just west of Birmingham, Alabama, passed a proclamation last December acknowledging the blessings of God and expressing a desire to seek divine guidance. Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, tells OneNewsNow:
“After this happened, the ACLU and the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent scathing letters of attack threatening the town officials,” he explains. “We ... have responded with a letter to Mayor Randy Price, pointing out the proclamation's consistency both in terms of recent cases and historic American tradition.”
Both atheist organizations are pretty good at frightening government bodies but have a less than desirable record in court. That's another thing Dacus pointed out in the letter.
“The ACLU and the Freedom From Religion Foundation have failed attempts in recent years to challenge things like the National Day of Prayer proclamation or Ohio's State motto, ‘With God All Things Are Possible’” he says. “So they can continue to try to make threats, they can continue to file lawsuits, but they can't rewrite history, they can't rewrite the Constitution.”
Dacus states too that both organizations had no complaints "when the City of San Francisco issued scathing denunciations of religious groups and the Catholic Church, all under the guise of free speech."
