Bill protects adoption agencies that protect children

There is still a chance Congress will act on a bill to protect faith-based adoption agencies.
The Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act, HR 1881, has lingered for some time in the House Ways and Means Subcommittee.
Family Research Council announced July 10 that the bill has been approved by the House Appropriations Commitee on a 29-23 vote. It was attached as an amendment to the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill.
Jon Schweppe of the American Principles Project says the legislation protects faith-based organizations that refuse to place children in the homes of homosexuals, which violates their biblical beliefs about families and children.
"It's happening in Massachusetts, California, Illinois and then, most recently, in Philadelphia," Schweppe warns.
OneNewsNow reported in April that Philadelphia's city council voted to stop cooperating with two organizations, Bethany Children Services and Catholic Social Services, that place children in foster care.
The city operates under a Fair Practices Ordinance that favors homosexual rights, and homosexual activists naturally applauded the city council vote.
Passage of the bill in the House committee is "good news for children, birth moms, and adoptive families, who want the opportunity to work with an agency that shares their values and core beliefs --- without fear of government discrimination," FRC President Tony Perkins said in a statement.
"Mothers who are considering adoption," he added, "should have the right to choose what agencies they want to work with to support them."
