Greetings brothers and sisters....I am pleased to have found this site. My husband ( first and only ) and I have been married for many years ... Been attending an IFB church ... Somewhat recently, I was strongly convicted to cover. I'm the only woman at my church who does. During daily reading/study at home 1 Cor. 11 became crystal clear to me and my eyes were opened ! Praise God ! I pray before I read . That day I was reading with an open and unbiased heart/mind and I saw the truth which "man" explains away. I read that chapter over and over again (angels ! this sounds serious) and I was FEARFUL to pray again with my head uncovered. Then I thought of all the many years I prayed and did not have a covered head!
For many years I have been reading/study daily and have read that chapter plenty of times in the past. Like I said, I read this time with an open and unbiased heart/mind. What a difference it makes!
I have also been trying 24/7 to "walk right". Thoughts, speech, actions etc ... approximately 10 years been working on spiritual growth. Still need to work on areas, subtracting here and adding there. Well, this is not exactly a brief intro but now you know a little about me.

Hello, sister! This board is indeed a wonderful place. I am constantly encouraged by the godly people here, and very grateful for their prayers and admonitions!
I had a very similar reaction from my mother, at first. She asked me if I was "a Muslim now, or what?" It took a few times of explaining it to her, and finally with the Bible in hand (I had memorized it for the most part). She now is just barely comfortable with it, and sometimes expresses a wish that I let my hair down. My father hasn't expressed much of an opinion at all.
You spelled burka right (I think the more common spelling is burqa or bur'qa, though...one of my once-friends is a Muslim and explained it to me). I am surprised that he would say something like that, especially as a Christian and especially if you explain your reasons. The covering is hardly a bur'qa. The bur'qa is, even according to the Muslim scriptures, a property marker, a symbol (if you will) that a particular woman is taken. The covering means so much more! We are taken, indeed, but by God. Indeed, that is the main reason for it. Praise the Lord!
Welcome to the board. I will be praying for you, your husband, and your son. God bless you!
Love in Christ,
Sarah

Dear Sarah
Thank you so much for your reply. I have read many many posts and I remember some of yours. Struggle with parents, future plans with fiance-to-be, going to non-christian college (not your choice), witnessing to other students......I'm sure I read others also but they don't come to mind.
The reason I remember these is because I was greatly amazed about your love for the Lord. I saw that you were only 20 yrs old. Thank you for your prayers and I will pray for you as well. What a challenge for you to be attending a non-christian school (the environment !) Let not the worldly surroundings change you one iota. Praise God for young people like yourself.

WELCOME SISTER! These boards are a source of information and fellowship with like minded believers! Don't be discouraged, Isn't it wonderfull that God shows us His will when we are ready to accept it. Praying for your husband to understand and have his heart open to the Lord in this matter. You may invite him to check out this site. It may give him understanding. God Bless you for your obedience to Him! If you don't mind saying...What state are you in? I am in Pa and looking for fellowship also.

Welcome to the board, I am also the only one in my church that covers. Thankfully my pastor believe that if it brings you closer to God, he doesn't say much against it.
Just thought I'd let you know your not the only one who is the only one at their church that covers. It seems your not very distressed by the comments of others, glad to know. I am also in an IFB church.

Sis AllglorytoGod,
I'm the only one in my church in TX, too, that covers. But we live in Guatemala in an area where there are several Mennonite families whose ladies cover.
My husband was out witnessing the other day, and met a covered lady. As he handed her a gospel tract, she, having seen us around town, asked if he is Mennonite. He said, "No, I am a Baptist." Folks around town apparently think we are mennonite because I cover (though mine is a veil, not a cap), and we dress modestly. She said she did not think we were Mennonites because of our big YELLOW van we drive our family around in. Bro. Ben and Sis. Darlene know what van I'm talking about, lol!
I hope our family and others will help improve the testimony of Baptists - nay, of Christ! - to the world. Our cousins, the Mennonites, are shining examples of personal modesty! Let us all never cease to grow, and obey God's Word as it is revealed to us.
Sis Tammy

Do not the Mennonite sisters there around you wear hanging veils? Pretty much all of ours that go out of country {US} wear a hanging one in the field. Mainly because it is easier to keep clean, cheaper too I believe. Praise the Lord for the wittiness you are providing there, may the Lord richly bless you and your husband, may the harvest be great even with a shortage of laborers. And God's name glorified. Bro Randy
