I have a question regarding I guess the term would be family planning. I am wondering is there any biblical way to practice birth control? I ask because a pregnancy (as much as I would love another child) would be financially devastating for us were we to stop using birthcontrol (spermicide foam). Once I change jobs there will be no insurance, the future of our family is depending on my schooling which would be put on hold. The chances of my getting pregnant would be slim seeing as I have less then 1/2 of an ovary left. I know God would provide were He to bless us with another child, yet I don't know if we would be acting irresponsibly to stop taking preventive measures. I would appreciate any wisdom you could share with me regarding this matter.

Hi Mandy, I think just trusting God with your fertility is the best way to plan your children. God knows just what you can handle and if He blesses you with a baby then He will definitely provide the means to take care of her(or him I don't believe that God will say "Oops! No birth control, take that!" and then you find yourself pregnant. God knows when you are ready to be a mommy and when that time comes God will take care of you. Just put your trust completely in Him. Now trusting Him for your family size doesn't mean He will give you 25 children! Some families who are trusting God may only have 1 or 2 children. I hope that helps.

Thank you for your encouraging words. It is scary in a way, ...but then that is part of surrendering myself to God. Does anyone have any verses of encouragement, reaasurrance, or something like that I can write down and keep with me to study?

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. (from Psalm 127)If there is one thing that is made clear by this passage, it is that children are a blessing from the Lord! They are no accident, no pitfall. HAPPY is the man that hath his quiver full of them. They shall not be ashamed... Another passage comes to mind: The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. (Proverb 10:22) Think about what makes one rich. Earthly wealth is not always a blessing - The love of it has destroyed many a man. But the blessing of the Lord, now THAT makes one truly rich. I have only recently given birth, so it is fresh on my heart what it is like to hold a new little child that God has tailor-made and gifted to our family. Each time I have a new one, I rejoice in my heart that the Lord did not stop with the last one! I tell you, we do not have a fancy house or a fancy car, but I am one RICH woman. Why? It is the blessing of the Lord. Look at Bro. Ben and Sis. Darlene, and all their lovely children about their table. Did you see that beautiful feast they enjoyed at Thanksgiving? Do you think she did everything herself? No, she had some lovely princess daughters merrily darting about in the kitchen with her, putting together those provisions. Sis. Darlene is the Queen of her Castle! That is the blessing of the Lord. When we were just starting out as a couple, expecting to have children, God did not lay out a financial plan for us, to show us how He was going to provide. But we simply obeyed what we knew to be his will - tithing, offerings, ministry to others, faithfulness, personal separation, etc. He always has provided! Meditate on Matthew 6:24-34. We are to take no thought about how He is going to provide our needs, but we are simply to seek first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness. God is, for lack of a better word, obligated to follow through with his promises. It is not for us to look to how he's going to do it, but to do our part - seek first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness. Just let the Lord build your house!
