I have a question about this issue. It seems that I have had a view that the Mennonites too easily think one can fall away and LOOSE their salvation vs the Baptist view of backsliding. I think this is an area that we all struggle with _ Seeing fruit and LASTING fruit in ourselves and others.
I have had personal experiences of thinking the Lord has used me to share the gospel with some one that 'accepts' the Lord and seems to make significant change only to sin is such extremes ( almost live a worse life than before ) that I then stand wondering if they did infact repent and recieve true salvation.
Also the reason I ask is because my dh and I do have several Mennonite churches in our area and from the stand point of being conservative and wanting discipleship of a conservative nature I think I could attend a conservative Mennonite Church. My husband on the other hand is more doubtful about this matter but I am praying.
I use the Rod and Staff HS resources and can testify that they have encouraged me greatly.
I even am really convicted about the non resistance issue. I am so sad that we have started our kids out on the norm of BAD guy vs Good guy fighting, honestly not trying to be funny here but currently am appauled at water guns and the like in children's play.
I also am so anti government now I don't have ANY desire to vote and I would never encourage my sons to go into the military and certianly not my daughters. We live much like the 'lifestyle code of conduct' that they encourage but am pulled away at times into movie watching although we never watch regular TV we try to get nature films etc.. for the kids but movies are still a temptation and honestly an area that my husband and I differ on.
I appreciated the reply to another about this churchs' doctrine. Could you expand on this a bit more?
And what Mennonite Churches are the most conservative there are all flavors around here including an few New Evangelical ones?
An online Baptist friend is currently going to a BMA and gives good report of her experience.
Thank You,
Jacinda
