Drear Brothers & Sisters,
I would be very grateful for some help from you all on the issue of slavery and war as I am unable to answer questions terribly well on these things and sadly its one question people use, ""If He is a loving God how could He allow salavery" type of comment. I would like to answer them knowledgeably and kindly but better still get it straight in my own mind. I see that God allowed slavery to happen...but that does not necessarily mean He actually approves of it. Goodness me there is lots happening that most certainley does not honour Him. I do not think the capturing, kidnapping and the dreadful events that followed to supply Europe & the Americas with slaves was what we were meant to be doing, but it made a lot of money and as money is the root of all evil, I can see how it all came about. I also see there is slavery in the Bible and God explains how to be a Godly slave owner. Is the whole point in the caring for those slaves, left as such through poverty and war? and that they are to be given work, food and a home which means dignity? provided for and then offered recompense and release every 7 years? (Jubilee)
Second question is about war. I appreciate the USA is in the middle of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as is my country so pls. I do not wish to offend but if God loves us all, wants us all to come to him, he wants the Taliban and the suicide bombers to be saved too, there is no level of good sinner and worse sinner...we are just all rotten and lost without Christ. So, through being exposed to the Word and the work of the Holy Spirit we shall be saved as we hear the Word, recognise our sin, repent and accept Christs gift on the cross and are born again. I have read the articles on Non-resistance and I can understand this but....God also sends his people to war in the Bible. I am a little confused regarding that. I know whole cities, countries were wiped out due to their sin. This was in the OT so is the NT with the coming and resurection of Christ showing us what true forgiveness is? and we are now to ''turn the other cheek'', reach the lost and not make war any more because I was so convicted when I read in a piece here about how could we kill an unsaved person, shoot and kill ...sending them to hell. This disturbed me greatly. So, what do we do about Genocide....the dictators who murder, plunder and destroy? those that plot to kill like 9/11 and destroy Israel, do we pray (as of course I know that will work if its in Gods will) and take no physical action? how do we defend those who cannot defend themselves?
I would be very grateful for help on all this. I appreciate its a huge subject and one i'm sure you have already dealt with so any teachings would be gratefully and thirstly recieved. Appologies if I have written unclearly,
Thank you in anticipation and Blessings In His Name,
Sister Allene <><
