Herbal all-purpose healing salve for wounds, bites, boils, blisters, & blemishes.
What you need:
1 cup olive or grapeseed oil
A domino-size piece of beeswax or roughly an ounce
1 tsp liquid or powdered goldenseal
1 tsp ground comfrey, leaves or roots (or 1 tsp comfrey liquid extract)
1 tsp echinacea, powdered or liquid.
1 tsp ground mullein leaves (or liquid extract).
(If you have powdered herbs, this is not a problem, just strain through muslin or cheesecloth after or put the powdered herbs in a spice bag and put the whole spice bag into your crockpot or pan).
1 tsp honey (honey inhibits mold and soothes itching in insect bites).
One vitamin e gel capsule
You could also add lilac or other flower blossoms or mint for the fragrance too, if you want it to smell good.
Several small jars
If you have a crock pot this works best. If not, you can cook the herbs on the stove on low temperature. Best type of pot on the stove would be a small cast iron dutch oven with a good lid.
Put your herbs in the olive or grapeseed oil and cook them with the lid on, on low heat over night. The next day, when you are ready, (don't worry what time, you can't overcook it on low - but you don't want to burn it), strain your herbs out or remove your spice bag. Pour the mixture into a kettle on your stove or into a metal coffee can, add your beeswax & stir till melted, then add the Vitamin E capsule (it is a great preservative). The beeswax doesn't sound like much, but it solidifes quickly, so pour or ladle into jars quickly, and leave the lids off till it cools completely.
Stored in a cool dark place (I like to keep it in the refrigerator), this will last for several months no problem. This is a healing salve and can be put on any cuts, scratches, bites, stings, or even skin blemishes. It is very versatile, very soothing, and helps things heal faster without infection.
