Dearest Debbie,
I thought I'd log my progress too. coveredbaptists.proboards31.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1148498096I am so excited! I researched dieting and weight loss most of my day yesterday. Every free moment I had. I want to loose weight with you!
I even called Weight Watchers. I believe they have a balanced approach to fitness and weight loss. Great program! Bro Ben said I can do it and I am excited to see what the Lord will do. I am a little uncomfortable about meeting with a bunch of worldly business women. Maybe I'll find a kindred spirit. Maybe they will like me too. My grandmother said alot of the people at her Weight Watchers group are sweet christians, they even talk about prayer and trusting God ( in her group). I hope my group is like that. Either way I'll learn alot about health and nutrition.
My greatest problem (sin) is not eating...I do not feel hungry...sometimes when I eat I feel nauseous. I should be skinny. But I do not gain or loose... and after 19 years and 8 baby's (pregnancy's) I could loose about 50 lb and be at a good weight for me. So I'm going to learn how and when to eat so I can get my metabolism active and loose some pounds and start exercising (walking) ...I haven't been able to do that for years but the Lord has healed my broken (cracked0 vertebrae, and my slipped disks....I feel great except for the chronic scoliosis back pain in my middle to upper back, which the Lord can heal that too. I'm on the road to improved health.
I just found out that 1 tsp of raw sugar counts as ( 0 points! ) Yippie! I do not believe in using Splenda or other unnatural man altered/ man made sugar substitutes. So this is a blessing to me.
I made myself breakfast at 11:30 am (didn't feel hungry)
1 cup cooked oatmeal with sugar it counted as 2 points
a cup of coffee with creamer (oops creamer costs 1 point...next time I will use dry non fat milk) 1 point
1 banana 1 point
A total of 4 points! Not bad. This is actually fun.
Now I have to figure out what to eat for lunch and dinner. The Lord will help me.
God is good. I go to my first meeting tomorrow at 9:30 am
Love ya, ~ sister Darlene~

Sister Darlene...I am so excited for you...I can't afford to go to Weight Watchers meetings at this time...but my daughter did order the program that I can follow at home ...it is such a blessing to have a sister following the plan to glorify our Lord also, we can encourage each other...thank you Sister for this wonderful surprise...just remember if you fall into temptation (like a big German Chocolate Cake) and eat not one slice, but half the cake just go clean your face, pray for forgiveness and keep moving forward, never looking back ;D...I had a slice of cake last night for the little girl's birthday next door, It was so good, I wanted MORE...but I thanked the Lord for its yummy taste and abstained from another piece...Praise HIS holy name...I feel jounaling our progress is a good way of keeping honest and sharing our successes and failures with our little cyber family...I am excited Darlene...Love ya Sis Debbie

Greetings sister Debbie,
I'm proud of you and your cake control. I do not crave sweets but Bonnie is a good cook and I can eat two or three of her cookies when she makes them but more than that causes me to feel sick...I do not like feeling sick.
My problem is I just hope I feel like eating at lunch time, and I hope I can figure out what to eat. Breakfast was ok. I think I must be weird not wanting to eat and not having an appetite. The Lady (at Weight Watchers) agreed that my body is in starvation mode, (imagine that....50 lbs overweight and starvation mode) she said ''I might feel nauseous, because I am malnourished''... malnourished... Ha Ha Ha ;D ;D ;D I told her if she saw me she would know I'm not malnourished. hee hee... She said it does not matter my size, I could be malnourished thats why I do not gain or loose weight. Very interesting!
Pray for me to know what to fix for lunch today!

Ok it's 3:46 pm and it's taken me this long to figure out what to eat. I figured I better eat lunch or I'd miss lunch altogether.
So I made a salad:
Mixed greens and Romaine lettuce 0 points
carrots 0 points
2 oz grated mild cheddar 1 point
6 croutons 1 point
Total 2 points This is fun... I wonder if you have to eat a certian amount to loose....If so I wont loose a thing eating this amount of points.....Maybe I can make up the differance with supper. We eat around 7:00 to 7:30....That's another thing... I need to not eat past 6:00, but Bro. Ben doesn't get home until 6:30 or so... I'll figure it all out.
Please continue to pray for me.
I'm praying for you Debbie!

I fixed my oopsie in my last post. The link goes through now. Just in case you missed that post.
Dear Debbie,
I'm doing great! I've been eating a small amount of something good every 2 hours and I'm beginning to actually feel hungry.
I've been reading my encouraging book that we both have, though some of the stories I can't relate to since my struggle is different. It is good and encouraging to see other ladies with huge obstacles before them over came... and they made it to their weight goal. My obstacle of not feeling hungry and having to eat many mini meals a day and sometimes feeling sick when I eat seems pretty big to me. But I am doing what I know is best for me and that is eating 8 times a day to wake up my metabolism. It's working too.
Ben got my exercise bike out of the storage in town. Benjamin put it together last night. I was able to get on it twice...all my girls wanted to try it out first. ;D I like it...it doesn't seem to hurt my back at all. I ride until I break a sweat and my heart is pounding good, then I get off and rest a while. Hopefully it will be dry enough to walk today. I have a Pedometer to wear while walking to judge my distance, but I do not know how it works. I need to study the guide first. I've had it for about 8 months, but was never able to walk because of my poor broken back. Now I can walk and I'm so glad, so I found my Pedometer and opened it up last night. Bonnie ( my oldest daughter) and I are ready to walk.`
What day are you on in your book? I want to stay on the same page.
I bought my scales Wednesday night, I weighed yesterday morning and again this morning....No change...not worried... I'll let you know when I loose a lb or two.
Have a great day sister!
P.S. Do you eat low fat food? I have this good book with plenty of good home cooked foods in it. The writer has been very successful at loosing alot of weight and keeping it off. She cooks good food without the added fat. Once I went on a low fat diet to help my ailing gaul bladder ( it helped greatly) I lost 12 lb in a short period of time. I enjoyed her recipes. I ate 10 grams of fat a day...trhats not much but it sure helped my gaul bladder until I could get the problem under controll... I just thought I would ask, If you like fat free and low fat food I will post some of her recipes.

I am so excited for you all in trying to get you're eating under control to "glorify the Lord". I have a couple of acquaintances near here who have lost a very large amount of weight and I heard it was basically from doing the 8 small meals a day.
Darlene, you said in one post that you were eating about every two hours. I have tried to find information online about doing that, but haven't found anything as of yet (without having to sign up and pay something.) I could stand to lose 15-20 lbs. The past couple of years it just continues to go up and I can't let it. I'm 5'3" and can't afford to gain anymore. My joints and back start to ache when I gain and that's not good.
Anyway, I really am praising the Lord with you ladies who are working on this. It's all for His glory and not our own.
Have a great day!
Frances

I thought I would jump in as I am on a new eating plan too. I need to lose over 100 pounds I am ashamed to say.
I drastically changed my way of eating this past week. Now even though I have lost weight and I am sure will continue to on this eating plan my main motivation was high blood glucose levels. Last Saturday my fasting blood glucose was 317! I knew I had to quit playing around and jump into action. After changing things I saw my levels drop every day and this morning, Saturday one week later my fasting blood glucose was 150! I never could have imagined that I would have such drastic results in just one week. I am so excited. My goal is to have my fasting glucose be 110 or below.
I have not been able to weigh but I am sure I have lost weight. One clue is this: Here around the farm I wear long denim jumpers. They were getting kind of worn. Last year I had ordered a couple of jumpers that turned out to be too small. Instead of sending them back I saved them hoping I would lose weight and ordered a bigger size. Just last week before I started this new plan I tried them on (hoping I could replace my worn out ones) and they were still too small. On Thursday I tried them on and they fit!! There is a tiny rural clinic in town and I am hoping to get there on Monday to weigh.
My eating plan is a bit different then some of you here. I hope that is okay, can we still share our successes even if we take a different road? Having had past experience with what raises my glucose levels I have gone on a low carb plan. Not an extreme one like some of them are. Basically I have eliminated sugar and grains. Grains even whole grains like whole wheat and brown rice make my levels soar off the chart. Here is my plan:
Meats: Beef, Chicken, Goat, Fish (with scales and fins) Dairy: Eggs, Goats Milk, Cheese (many kinds) Legumes: All kinds of dried beans and peas Vegetables: All except for potatoes and corn. Fruits: Several a day but only if eaten with protein
Condiments: olive oil, butter, sour cream, vinegar, mustard, home-made mayonnaise, Tabasco, herbs & spices. And dressings and sauces made from the above.
I basically eat as much as I want of any category but what has been the key for me in the past is to make sure I have beans once or twice a day. For some reason---maybe the fiber??? I always do better if I eat beans as far as my glucose levels go. I keep protein snacks and lots of raw veggies in the fridge.
Now I know to some the above condiments are surprising (because of the fat) but when I did this before I lost 30 pounds and have kept it off. And was never hungry.
I just have my dh to cook for and I basically fix him the same as me but I also sometimes add some brown rice, whole wheat noodles, or home-made whole wheat bread for him to eat or put in his lunch box.
Almost everyday this week I have made a smoothie mid-morning. It is funny I have not had Sugar in 8 days and everything tastes so delicious to me now. I put goats milk and frozen fruit in the blender and make such delicious drinks. It feels indulgent and creamy and yummy. I have done Strawberry, Strawberry-Banana, Banana-Peach and Banana Blueberry so far.
I am just amazed at how the Lord has helped me with this. On a trip to the grocery store I did not feel like I was missing out on all the junk at all. In the produce department I just looked around in awe at so much variety that God has given us. Isn't the Lord wonderful!

Dear Frances and Shoshana,
I am so encouraged by your posts. Thank you for sharing.
I do not have time to explain today but I will get back on very soon and explain more about the diet. I've got so much to do today. Whew I'm tired just thinking about it. ;D
Please keep me in your prayers. It is so hard for me to make myself eat, but I force myself even though I do not feel hungry. I know that must sound weird. This morning I had to force myself to eat a granola bar at 8 I could hardly choke it down. It's down now. The bad thing is I have to eat again at 10 12 2 4 6 8 maybe 10 if I am awake. I'm still struggling to eat 8 times a day so far I have been able to eat 6 or 7 times a day. I can hardly eat that much food. I know it sounds out of the norm...no appetite. Please pray I will loose weight fast....not to fast just at a good pace.
I will get back on soon and expound on my diet.
Shoshana, I'm so glad you found this site! I am so proud of you and your diet efforts. Your doing better than me...Keep up the good work. You will not regret it. We need to get off our extra weight now before were 50 because I hear your body changes and it's much harder to get off the weight then. How good it will be to get off the extra lbs. Walking is great exercise. We are going to start walking very soon.
Have a great day sisters!
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~

Dear Frances,
I still haven't forgotten about you, I have been running ragged trying to get my garden, clothes, housework, yard work, and many more small projects done...it's more than a full time job. ;D Benjamin has been bringing home all kind of fresh veggies for me to cook up...a bushel of squash and tomatoes and even about 1 dozen green tomatoes to fry...about a month ago it was Asparagus and gallons of fresh strawberries! yummy!
I need to find the time to sit down and write all my diet down...I will do it, but it will take me a few more days before I get to it.
Thinking of you sister and you too Debbie and Shoshana! How exciting we can encourage each other.
Sunday I did not eat much and yesterday I only ate twice. I wont gain but I wont loose any eaither...It really is hard for me to eat or even desire food. Please keep me in your prayers. And keep me accountable too. Feel free to ask me how I'm eating!
Love, ~ sister Darlene~
P.S. I think were going to the property to work today. If it does not rain.

I need prayer I'm not doing very well. I cannot find anything to eat...We have lots of food but nothing appeals and I do not get hungry so it makes it really hard.
Does anyone have any food suggestions? I often will have a piece of toast or a rice cake or a granola bar, or a salad, a yogart, my daughter often fixes me something more nourishing and I eat what she fixes, but other than that I cannot think of any food items to eat. I need suggestions and lots of prayer.

Sister Darlene, you definitely have my prayers. Let me ask you something here. Could it be that you are spending too much time fretting about this eating thing? I have no idea but it is a thought. Yousee whatever our mind is faced with is what it will be conformed to. If you are in constant thought about this problem of course you will be conformed to it and really have a difficult time putting it in its proper perspective.
In Christ, George
