If you have a copy of the "Christian Hymnary" you might like to sing #23"Great God indulge my Humble claim" and also #295 "Am I a soldier of the Cross" Both are from Isaac Watts.
I recently heard a bio on Watts life. It really put's our struggles into perspective.
You know a good hymn when you don't have to sing it to be edified.
Be steadfast in your faith.

I love "Am I a soldier of the cross but have not heard the other. I am going to search it out and try to play it.
Thank You for sharing, Vanessa

I love Isaac Watts - he went to my school in Southampton. His version of Psalm 90 - "Our God our help in ages past" rings out from the Civic Centre clock tower every 4 hours.
"God's House Tower" still exists, where his father was imprisoned for preaching as an Independent minister. His mother used to take baby Isaac & sit outside the tower so daddy could hear his son cry.
The Pastor who led me to a clear conviction of faith in Christ wrote a biography of Watts for the tercentenary of his birth.

I have recently listened to a bio of Issac Watts by Dr Nick Needham. It really gave a clearer picture of his life and work. The bio was in 2 parts, the first was his life in general, and the second focused mostly on his hymn writing. I'll try and get the link to the web site where I downloaded it. That's what inspired me to review some of his hymns. Reading through the hymns that he wrote was more meaningful after I had listened to the BIO, and got to know the man better.

A couple years ago we were given the, 'Amazing Grace,' audiobook about William Wilberforce, John Newton, and Olaudah Equiano by Dave Arnold, Paul McCusker. It was put out by Focus on the Family. We loved it. It was an excellent production. Each cd really brought out each man's humanity and how God, in his sovereignty, came into their lives and used them for his glory. It can't be understated how valuable it is to read (and in this case listen to,) these great biogragpies to our family. This is one of our family worship experiences. One cannot help but to be moved by the Spirit of God as we look into the lives of these servants of God.
