I found a recipe for homemade fly traps that work amazingly well. Take an empty 2 litre soda bottle. I take the lable off. Using a funnel add 1c. sugar, 1c. cider vinegar and then poke a banana peel in. Fill to within about 3-4 inches of top. Pul lid on, shake to dissolve the sugar. Remove top and save. Using string or wire hand in trees and you will soon see how this amazing concoction works. When it is full. Screw the lid back on, remove it from the tree and discard. If the bottle should fall or get knocked down you dont have to worry about nasty chemicals or hurting pets or kids. Its all natural. We have used these for about 5 years. We live in the country. They seem to work best if hung in trees as opposed to the side of a building. We usually have 20 or 30 of them hanging around in our trees. People always want to know what they are. They are amazed.

So you discard the plastic two-liter bottle instead of recycling it?

Yes George I throw the bottle that is filled to the brim with nasty flies away. We live in no mans land and they dont even know what recycling is. Oh and I do recycle or at least reuse them by making the fly traps out of them. I can take a picture of one if anyonewants me to.

Oh, yes, please take a picture of one and post, Sister Debbie.
I'm going to try this recipe next summer. No flies where I am at the moment, but come summer and you can barely breathe for the flies! I spent all last summer with fly tape hanging from the lightbulbs, but it didn't seem to help...
Thanks and God bless,
From Rachel.

Wow, thank you for posting this! I am going to try it, but find a place in my house for it. We have to keep our doors and windows open during the day so that our cinderblock house stays dry, and those flies seem to think an open door is an open invitation!
