Hi all,
I am new to the board and new to many of the ideas/concepts found here, so please don't misconstrue my questions as anything other than that, I really do what to know what you all think.
I don't understand the preference for using KJV only or why other Bible versions are not considered acceptable. Would anyone care to enlighten me with a beginner's tutorial? I tried to read through the old threads here but a lot of it does not make sense to me because I have no frame of reference to place the remarks in.
With thanks, Rachel

The KJB is based off of the Textus Receptus and the Masoratic (sp?) Texts, non of the modern ones are. That's the quick, one sentence explanation. I came to be convicted about only using the KJB after reading Brother Gipp's book "An Understandable History of the Bible." You can actually read an older edition here: www.chick.com/reading/books/157/157cont.asp

Brother Sam Gipp's books are excellent on the KJV. I'd also recommend Gail Riplinger's books. The best is New Age Versions. It's a deep book, but is very good. Another good book of hers that isn't quite so scholarly is The Language of the King James Version.
The new versions take out the diety of Jesus Christ, the blood of Jesus Christ and many other things.
The King James is written at a lower reading level and uses more simple words, so it's understandable for more people.
The language of the King James makes memorization easier. It also contains it's own dictionary, many words are explained in the context.
I hope that gives you some ideas. Sis. Beverly

To boil the topic down to its most basic elements, there are two families of manuscripts:
1. Those that survived and were collected from the region where the first churches were started, i.e., Ephesus, Thessolinica, Asia Minor in general. These texts are sometimes called the Byznatine Text. A godly man named Erasamus collected as many as he could find, (which was ALOT!) and compared them and found them in GREAT agreement. He called his collection the Majority Text, based on the "majority" of them being in agreement. This was translated into a single text a called the Textus Receptus which is Latin for the Received Text. From this came all the versions used to make our King James Version.
2. Those that came from the schools of "higher learning" that retranslated the existing "good" manuscripts and tampered with their sacred contents. This was also done by the (corrupt) Catholic church scholars. These writings were collectd in the early 1800's by two pro-Catholic, scholars, Wescott and Hort, of the Church of England. The two primary manuscripts they used were called:
Codex Vaticanus, and Codex Sinaticus.
Codex simply means book with a binding, Vaticanus means it was from the Vatican and Sinaticus was found in a Catholic monestary, (trash pile, really!)
From these two manuscripts, which disagreed over 3,000 times in JUST the four Gospels alone, came the Revised Version, (R.V.) of 1881. From the R.V. came all the new translations, i.e., NASB, NIV, NRSV, etc.
Some like the "New King James Version, but the problem with that is it's a blend of both works, the TR and the RV. A clear reliable translation and a corrupted one. Who wants muddy water?
So, I hope that expains it in a concise manner. Please feel free to ask more questions. We love to answer them and get the FACTS out there.
Bro. Ben

I'd like to cut to the heart of this matter for the sake of simplicity. When ALL the manuscripts have been examined, and all the scholars have been questioned, the final answer is the bible itself. Notice this great truth: Psalm 12 [6] The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. [7] Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. The Psalmist has told us this about God's word: 1. It is pure, very pure 2. It is kept by God 3. It shall preserved forever We must then ask these honest questions if God be true, (and of course we know he is:) 1. Do we have God's word in it's PURE state today, preserved, just as he promised? 2. Which version is it, they are all different, it can't be all of them. Personally I don't care which one it is at the end of the day, I just want someone who is bold enough to stand on the truth to point to the ONE and say, "There it is!" Ask the non-KJV folks if they have the pure, preserved, inerrent word of God, and they will tell you, "No." They have to, it is consistent with their philosophy. They think it was only pure in the original autographs, and no one has those. So, when the Psalmist said: Psalm 119 [89] For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.we must ask, "Would God settle it in heaven, and then leave it there?" We are the one's that need it. And, what kind of word would God give besides pure? Logically, we know that answer, too. Matthew penned: Matt. 4 [4] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.We must conclude that God's word is settled, (established already,) and man must live by EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God, not just SOME of them. Do you see my point. Logic proves the the KJV. If not, someone tell me which on it is. God gave the criteria, where is God's pure word. Bro. Ben Here is an excellent resource I highly recommend. That is really good Bro. Ben.
Other verses that "cement" it for me are the verses that are warnings not to add or subtract from it. That tells me that someone will do that, and already has.
Deut 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
Prov 30:5-6 Every word of God is pure; he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Rev 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
