I spent 5 weeks looking for veiling fabric and finally found blsck and white mesh suitable from Yoder Department store in Indianna. It is under $3.50 a yard so I got 6 yeards coming. # white and 3 yards black. The cap I made for friend Melanie was about 1/4 inch too big so I am making another one out of interfacing to tweak the fit.

pardon the typos. It takes a while for my vision to clear in the morning. I am losing my vision and some days are worse than others

Stauffer's Dry Goods also carries cap fabrics. My sample pack is a few years old, so the prices might be different.
60" wide cotton trigger covering material is $5.10 a yard. white 60" wide 100% cotton organdy is $4.10 a yard. white 45" veri form is $3.95 a yard.black and white 45" Cotton Italian Organdy is $9.20 a yard for black and $8.60 for white. It's a very finely woven delicate fabric. 45" poly cotton voile is $3.20 for black and $2.90 for white.
These are all stiffer materials for caps.
Stauffer's is an Old Order Amish store and they carry all kinds of hard to find fabrics. (no quilt fabrics though) There prices are excellent and the service is great. I make some of my dresses out of their poly cotton poplin and it's a very nicely woven fabric that will wear very well.
For a large selection of samples and a small catalog, send $3.00 to: Stauffer's Dry Goods 76 Stauffer Rd. Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853. Phone is: 570-539-8365. You might call and see if the sample pack price has gone up. It is well worth the money for all the samples.
Please ask if you have questions...I'll try to answer.

I have a huge bolt of covering fabric, its a mesh that is wider than I wear, I purchased it from Stauffer's. I wear the organdy that is softly lined its about $13.95 a yard but mine are ready made however.
I just picked up a book on covering making, for all the kapps, it was at Chupp's in Nottawa, my Aunt, Uncle and I went there and over to the Yoder Store North of them, and to Miller's Store, they have lots of bulk foods, I like Spector's Dept. Store in Shipshewana as Yoder's is so full of tourists, last trip there I never even stopped, we did make it a point to visit Laura's Fabric's also, she carries a lot of nice dress fabrics and covering material and she does mail order. Hope this helps. Sister Penny

I live close to Yoder's and buy most of my veiling fabrics there also. The quality of what I've bought there seems good and is durable.

I no longer go to a Mennonite church anymore and so I am trying to find any kind of fabric that would be good to make some hanging veils.. I have a dear friend here that has ordered me some veils But I would like to make some of my own.. I have a hanging veil pattern from the Sewing a Headship veiling Home Economics book and I would like to use it.. I had thought about getting some bandana's from Walmart or Hobby Lobby for $1.00 each and tracing out my pattern onto it and doing some that way.. Any thoughts would be wonderful!! I pray each of you have a very blessed day!! Elizabeth
