I deleted my first post on this because I felt helpless and embarrassed to post something of this nature. Recently I gained a lot of weight in a short amount of time. It put pressure on the heart and lungs. Looking for some encouragement to get back in shape. I am now on medicines and have problems like TMJ, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and COPD. All of these could be improved with weight loss. Another reason for losing weight is I decided to write a booklet (required for my degree) on women returning to health after gaining weight post marriage and children. The instructor thought I should also participate. I was about 130 and kept climbing till almost 200. It may not seem like much to some but it happened fast and my body didn't adjust well. Any input would be appreciated. I want to practice better temple care.

This issue has been on my heart for some time, and came on very strongly recently (last couple months). God has revealed to me that being obese is a great sin! Unforunately one that is overlooked by most people and even by most churches. I have struggled with weight my whole life, and I too want to take better care of God's temple!!!!!

Hello , I have not posted on this subject in awhile; however, rereading this is motivational to me. When I would be sick and could not do much it discouraged me from being healthy and I had a negative attitude about it. I have prayed for help and made the decision that if I eat healthier and exercise on my good times it will improve, Iwill have more good days. I read Sis. Darlene's post on walking and I have been doing that. There are also you-tube videos on walking if I don't get out. My husband and I have an arrangement. I drop him off at work, go to the gym. I use the treadmill and to some light weights. The YMCA here has dress codes ( They also allow me to dress as I like so long as I don't get hurt. Later in the day after I pick my husband up from work we go back to the gym if we feel up to it. Started at 194 (approx) Now 184 Dear Sisters, I know this sounds self indulged to some but I prayed for God to help me be a better wife. By cooking better, I take that responsibility to my husband more seriously. I care dearly for him. 1 Corinthians 11:9 "Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." I do understand that there is no cure for COPD, but I have a choice on serving the Lord with joy or moping and getting down. Each person has different levels and times of sickness.

Dear sister Kristi,
I will be praying for your endeavor to loose some weight and regain health. You too sister Emily!
You made this statement:
I do understand that there is no cure for COPD, but I have a choice on serving the Lord with joy or moping and getting down. Each person has different levels and times of sickness.
Bro Ben said that's what the doctors and pharmaceutical companies want you to think. It's money in their pockets as long as you stay sick. I know I was there on deaths door step, they gave up on me, they couldn't even help me any more. They said I was dying and I knew I was, I felt sick inside and out, almost without hope. But I am a christian and I put my trust in God to guide my path, and He did!
He gave me a mid wife who was an old black lady, she had delivered hundreds of babies and she knew the healing power of herbs and how to use them, she was a sweet christian lady. God put her across my path. I was desperate...I had tried the doctors path and now I was going to die if something did not change.
I would like to encourage you. I wrote my testimony in the COPD thread. If God gave me my health back, he can give you your health back (medication free). You do not have to be sick for the rest of your life.
I have to tell you so you will have a choice. I remember how desperate I felt when I thought there was no hope.

I had an idea do you think your medications could have caused the weight gain? Meds can change your metabolism. Just an idea.
Thinking of you and Praying for you! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dear sister Emily,
Quote: God has revealed to me that being obese is a great sin! Unfortunately one that is overlooked by most people and even by most churches. I have struggled with weight my whole life, and I too want to take better care of God's temple!!!!
What is obese? God made everyone different. The government chart would have everyone a certain height be the exact same puny weight. Have you ever seen a manly looking Vegan, the men and women all look thin and dry (I'm not trying to be mean, it's just something I have observed) I know alot of Seventh Day Adventist and their all on the small side. The government chart would have us all look alike.
God did not make everybody alike. We are all different.
You should just be your natural size, not what some some chart says you should be.
It is not a sin to be what American charts would call overweight.. (obese). It is not good to be truly fat but a little meat on your bones is not bad.
Here in America we have a problem with over eating, and poor food choices.
There are some outside causes for being over weight and one is medications, metabolism problems, I think alot of pre fab foods and growth hormones are the cause of unusual fat or weight gain also.
then there are natural causes like age (hormone changes), multiple child births, health problems, lack of exercise.
The bible calls gluttony a sin. (over eating)
The bible teaches moderation, and to take good care of our temple (bodies).
Smart well balanced food choices, and moderate exercise is the thing that Americans need to focus on, not loosing weight enough until we line up with the chart.
People get too caught up with their bodies, diets, extreme exercise programs like aerobics, running etc. You can actually damage your body by treating it so harshly. God never intended such extreme exertion.
We should focus on a balanced diet, and toning up our muscles (maybe take some protein powder), and walking, maybe riding our bike or hiking. Eating food as close to natural and unprocessed as we can.
Lots of fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, natural fats and oils (butter, olive oil, lard, etc), nuts, dried fruits, cheeses (white is best), lean meats, fish, natural sugars, etc All in moderation.
I too would like to loose a few pounds and tone up my muscles a bit, so please pray for me too. God honors our prayers and efforts if they are pure and for the right reasons.
Too many women and men have the wrong idea of what the proper weight and body should look like.
Oft times we get discouraged trying to reach an exact weight goal the Lord never intended.
I do think it is a good thing to loose enough weight where we feel healthy.
Hope you do not mind my ramblings on this topic.
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~

Love, ~ sister Darlene ~ Sis Darlene, I understand what you are trying to say...I don't want to give my weight out on here, but believe me when I say I am obese and it is something I am slowly trying to work on. My body and health do not bring God glory, I hurt my body everyday and every night and something has to change about that.

Dear Emily,
I will be praying for you! Pray and God will help you make healthy food choices, and to eat in moderation, and to walk for exercise, you could walk with light weights in your hands.
You could pray for the Lords help and to bless your efforts. The Lord is on your side He desires you to be healthy.
We all know our bodies and if we need to loose a couple of pounds or even alot of pounds.
God can give you strength and help the pounds to come off easy.
Have you heard of Juicing. I've heard of people dropping many unwanted pounds by juicing. You could replace one meal a day then two maybe even three if you really got into it. You need a good juicer. Wal Mart has a really nice Jack Lalanne juicer for 99.00www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=f&oq=jack+lalane+juicer&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ACAW_enUS369US369&q=jack+lalane+juicer&gs_upl=0l0l0l8206lllllllllll0You can scroll down and there are recipes and how to juice.
It is good to add juicing to your diet because it will add nutrients to your body and help you be healthy and for your body to function properly.
1 Tb Vinegar (Raw Apple Cider Vinegar found at health food stores and Kroger carries it for 4.99) and 1 TB Honey(raw sugar works too) in 1/2 cup warm water taken before every meal helps your body digest and metabolize fat.
I have a heart defect and my grandmother had to have a pacemaker and my mother has a defibrillator. I am just going to avoid getting anything put in my body. When it's my time to go I will go up to glory to be forever with my Lord. Stress and health problems cause my left arm to swell it use to swell 1 1/4 inches bigger than my right arm. Recently we measured it and it was 2 1/2 inches bigger than my right arm. I rest and pace myself and the swelling goes down. I take a B/C powder for my heart.
I recently started taking Potassium for my heart, and Vit E (400 IU) Twice a day.
Omega3, 6, & 9 (1200mg of Fish, Flax, Evening Primrose, Black Currant, & Borage oils. Ben and I started taking this 1 Twice a day...Bro Ben takes 2 twice a day for his arthritis.
Sam's Wholesale has really good prices on these huge bottles of supplements.
Oh!, also a really good thing for us all to take is Vit C (We rally like E-mergen C...you can get these packets at Wal Mart and Sam's Club for really cheep. I would take one in the morning and one at night, but at least 1 a day.
We have to retrain our bodies to eat healthy and to be healthy.
I will pray hard for you and sister Kristy, Remember me in your prayers too.
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~

One book that has helped us tremendously is Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. With all the "healthy" diets/eating plans out there these days, this one made the most sense. Because it focuses on going back to the basics, the way people have been eating for centuries. Good meats with no antibiotics/hormones, raw milk, vegetables without pesticides, etc. It points out good fats, harmful fats and other modern foods we should stay away from. I believe you can get the book on Amazon for around $14-$15. While we didn't eat a lot of junk food, God has blessed us with ways to eat even healthier. We are able to get eggs from a neighbor, and we have recently been blessed with a source for raw milk. We hope to start making our own cheese and butter soon.
