Several years back I saved every last penny I could spare and purchased a Viking Emerald 116 sewing machine. I love it immensely. Only problem was it lacked a few features I thought would come in handy. Then my aunt gifted me her Emerald 118, which operated the same as my 116 model, only it had a few more stitch functions, an adjustable speed peddle, and a few different presser feet.
Last night I was online looking at additional feet for my sewing machine. Oh, they are so expensive! I really want a walking foot, a rolled hem foot and a gathering foot. While I can do gathering by hand with the basting stitch, I use gathers in most of my projects and I thought that gathering foot would be so handy.
Not long ago my sister and her husband moved and she left her Europro Craft 'n Sew in my basement. She said she never used it and that I could feel free to use it any time I wanted. She said the only thing was that she had long since misplaced the user manual. Today I decided to dig it out from a dusty corner and take a look at it. It has all the presser feet I'd been wanting with the exception of the walking foot.
That little Europro, in all of its simplicity, does more than my Viking, which surprised me a little. I have some veils I need to sew, and that rolled hem foot will make it so much easier.

That sounds like such a blessing! I'm a new sewer and I didn't even know most of these things existed! I have so much more to learn!

That sounds like such a blessing! I'm a new sewer and I didn't even know most of these things existed! I have so much more to learn! In all honesty, I had no clue about a rolled hem foot until I was watching a video recently on how to make a headship veil and the lady used her serger to make a rolled hem. Since I do not have a serger I did a search for making a rolled hem on a sewing machine and had no idea you can buy a foot that does it for you. And I would love a deluxe walking foot for my quilting. It helps pull those layers through from the top and the bottom so the layers don't slip and bunch up.

I smiled when I read your post. I used an old 177C singer. My dh likes to call it the boat anchor because its an old metal heavy machine. It had three functions. Forward, backwards and zig zag. I kept trying to convince myself I could do so much more with a fancy machine. He finally bought me one and. it was months before I even took it out of the box. I didn't think I could figure it out. He was so happy to get it for me and asked about it often so I finally used it. I like it. I can carry this one myself when I want it moved.

You know something hilarious? The rolled hem foot for the machine only works on lightweight/sheer fabrics like chiffon and silk. It didn't work at all on cotton. Although, I got a wonderful surprise gift from my mother. She bought me the Alphasew deluxe walking foot! I was so surprised and grateful. It works like a ream.
