"In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me." Psalm 120:1
"It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes." Psalm 119:71
Like anyone with physical (or any) affliction, it can be easy to become discouraged. One thing I have done more faithfully than ever since I lost my job last September, is to spend quality and QUANTITY time in the scriptures. There is just something to pouring over the scriptures. No one can show you your true self like the Lord. A verse that has been the open door to other verses is:
"[1] What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
[2] Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God." Rom. 3:1,2
I emphasize "oracles of God," because the scriptures are the ORACLE or SPEAKING WINDOW of the Lord. Yes, he can and does speak through others, circumstances, etc., but there is something to having an open heart, immersing oneself in the written word, and having God shine a light on a verse, letting speak SPECIFICALLY to you. Here's one to explain:
"For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light." Psalm 36:9
"Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors."
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:24,105
In the light of his word, God shines a light upon verses you didn't notice (or were to hardheaded to see, my case!) and begins to bring a growth in your life you didn't have before.
THIS IS IMPORTANT, DON'T MISS IT, THERE IS POWER IN HIS WORD! MEMORIZE IT!
I am an unworthy child and servant. I have been a detriment to my wife, my children, and my brethren/friends. My prayer is for growth, maturity, and usefulness. Ya'll pray that for me! I'll pray it for you, too!
