China found another way to rob us blind, warns congressmanWednesday, October 3, 2018 | Steve Jordahl (OneNewsNow.com (link))
While much of the United States knows that Russia, Iran and North Korea remain our foes, China continues to work against us behind the scenes.
President Donald Trump has called out America's powerful trading partner --- and a foe of free speech and religious liberty --- for stealing American technology right under our noses and arm-twisting U.S. businesses to demand their secrets, drawing mixed reviews from Big Business that is angry at China's tactics but wants to continue trade.
An ONN story from May, meanwhile, reported that China's communist leaders are determined to become the world's dominant superpower by 2035, with war plans known as "Assassin's Mace" in place to defeat the U.S. if necessary.
U.S. Rep. Jim Banks (R-Indiana) tells OneNewsNow that China has also wormed its way into America's colleges and universities.
"There are companies like ZTE and Huawei," he explains, "that are extensions of the communist party, and what they do is they give money to American universities and use those investments to have a presence on college campuses."
Trump with China president XiMany college campuses perform classified research for the Department of Defense and other agencies, which means that Chinese nationals have found their way into those research facilities. The information they retrieve then finds its way back to China.
The FBI announced in September it had arrested an engineering student in Chicago who used a U.S. Army Reserve Program to target secrets from army contractors. The student, Ji Chaquon, was working with China's spy agency.
The same Washington Free Beacon story recalled the FBI has a "poor record" of countering Chinese intelligence going back to the 1990s.
"I give this administration --- President Trump --- a lot of credit," says Banks, "for being the first administration in a long time to crack down on these tactics."
The congressman says he wants more insight, however, and has contacted the Department of Education and Secretary Betsey DeVos asking them to investigate China's ongoing espionage tactics on campuses.
