The past few days my children and I have studied what their own names mean and how they can use their names as an example to live up to. First off you would want to study the names on your own to find out what they mean. ;D We have used all Old Testament names so it has worked out well for us.
David-Beloved We talked of how David in the Bible was beloved of God. How he tried to put God first.
Levi-Associate We talked about Levi's family and how they became the priestly line. We told our Levi that you could see the father's influence in his family because they followed God and how Levi must have been an associate with God.
Rebekah-noose Okay this one was hard to do but we talked of binding Gods words to us we used Deuteronomy and the passage on binding them upon the door posts. We also spoke on Proverbs 31 how the Law of kindness was in her tongue. The Proverbs 31 woman had God's laws in her heart.
Isaiah- Salvation of Jehovah We talked on going out and sharing the good news of Jesus. We also talked about Isaiah growing up to someday bring the message of Jesus Christ to the Jewish people.
Ruth Anne-Friend of peace We spoke of the perfect peace of God. Perfect peace have they which Love thy law. How we once again need God's laws to give us this peace.
This is a great way to get a vision for your children. Give them something to aim for. Also makes you aware of what you are naming you children. My family said because we like old testament names why not name the next girl Miriam. I am not against the name but I do not want rebellion in our home. Just a thought so many Bible characters lived up to their names. I want my children to do the same but in a good way.
