Luke 2:25-35
And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to they word,
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory to thy people Israel.
And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sigh which shall be spoken against;
{Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also, } that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
Brethren,
As we come to this time of the year many people focus on Jesus Christ. The unbelieving will only see the little babe in the manger. And that is where they leave him. Not seeing nor desiring to have Christ as their Lord and Saviour in their life, mainly because they are blinded be the evil one, and have not yet allowed the light of the Word to shine in.
We as believers see not only the babe in the manger, but also the Lord Jesus Christ that came and died on the cross for each and every one of us. That we might have hope and eternal life.
In the above scripture we see an old man that was promised that he would not die until he say the Lord's Christ. Now I fully believe that Simeon would wake each day thinking is this the day that I will see him. I can just picture it in my mind Simeon waking each new morning saying " IS THIS GOING TO BE THE DAY LORD?" This was done with great expectation and excitement.
Now for my question. Do we [my self included] look forward each day with excitement and wondering if this will be the day that Jesus Christ will return? Or have we because of 2000 years passing became accustom to the thought that everything is the same and it was and will continue so, now I know none of us really say such a thing , but deep in our mind is that what we think?
I must confess that I am as guilty as any and don't always look at each new day as I should and maybe to many times it is about what needs to get done for the day.
I leave as a challenge that each one of us diligently look forward to each new day " IS THIS GOING TO Be THE DAY OF THE LORD'S RETURN?
May God help each of us to have things in order and be ready and waiting, but occupy until his return.
