I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. Psalm 119:162
I have this little book called, 'Things To Pray About.' It is just scriptures worded in such a way that they lend themselves to personal prayer application. Just recently I have really been enjoying it on the way to work. Today's verse was the verse above.
I will rejoice. To have joy...again! Where is your joy this morning, dear Christian? Is it gone? Has been reoriented to some other thing that will not last? Then I encourage you to have joy again, to re-joice! In what?
At thy word! Ah the wonderous, healing, uplifting, heart-searching word of God. On his death bed Sir Walter Raleigh said to his servent, "Bring me the Book," to which his servent said, "But dear sir, you have a great library. Which book do you want?" to which he replied, "There is only one book, bring me the Bible!" What truth.
When we crack open the word of God, it is like openning the door to an enchanted land where there is no more sin, sickness, or sorrow. Where the lion lays down with the Lamb, and the Son of Righteousness shines down on us. Go, dear Christian, go to the word of God.
Thy word is like a garden, Lord,
With flowers bright and fair.
And every time I go I pluck,
A lovely cluster there!
"As one that findeth great spoil." Do you remember the story in the Old Testament when Jerusalem was beseiged by the enemy and three lepers decided to go our to the enemy. They figured, if we stay here we die of starvation. If we go to the enemy, perhaps they'll make us slaves, and they'll feed us. If not they'll kill us. Either way, we die. So they went and in the mean time the Lord sent derision amongst the camp and they left in a hurry. When the three lepers got there...Wow! a camp full of spoil. They got nice new garments, jewels of gold, and food to the fill.
How is your heart this morning? Are you soaring high with the eagles, or are you burdened in the leperous rags of sin or sorrow? Go, oh Christian, go to the the abundant tents of plenty found in God's word. There you will find great spoil. It is the will of God that you come to Him. Only the enemy would whisper into your very spirit, "You aren't worthy to go the the store house of God." Out loud, say, "This is the lie of the enemy!" As in the story of the prodigal son,
"And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee," Luke 12:16,17
If you have placed saving faith in the glorious finished work of Christ on Calvary, YOU, are a child of the Father! You may arise and go to Him at this very minute.
May Father add His bless to His word and to you, my dear brethren, this day.
