I feel a bit weird sharing devotional thoughts on a mixed board as I am of strong mind that women are not to teach men.. but these are just my thoughts, and some scripture that came to me, and I feel I must share as they seem so relevant to all of us who are persecuted for being different, or who are grieved by all that is going on around us even in the Churches.. So anyway....
Yesterday at Church the preacher was talking about letting satan steal our joy and he read from several places in the Bible about joy, but this verse really got me thinking and sticks out in my mind and I wanted to share..
"And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
Nehemiah 8: 9-10
They are told not to weep because the JOY of the LORD is their strength, to give to those with less, to rejoice.. I know many days when I am sad because of this or that, or persecutions seem to much, I just want to weep, but right here it says, that rejoicing, having JOY in the LORD is what gives us strength.. I mean instead of just praying for Strength to make it through whatever woe we have we should REJOICE be JOYFUL in the LORD and that will be our strength.. I use the KJV for everything but sometimes I like to cross it in Another translation I have; a literal translation and it says it this way:
"Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, "This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep." For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the law. Then he said to them, "Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our LORD> Do not grieve, because your strength [comes from] rejoicing int eh LORD."
Nehemiah 8:9-10 HCS version..
Anyway, rejoicing in the LORD, Joy in the LORD that IS OUR STRENGTH>>>>>> so imagine how everytime we got upset, or felt overwhelmed, grieved, sad, lonely anything like that, how we could feel and how much stronger we could be if only we remembered to REJOICE in the LORD..
Just a ponder, just a thought I wanted to share..
