A question my dear brothers and my dear sisters:
Are you seeing God? Do you have a vision for God? Is God manifesting himself to you in your daily life?
Mat 5:8 Blessed [are] the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
1Jo 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1Jo 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
Hbr 12:10 For they verily for a few days chastened [us] after their own pleasure; but he for [our] profit, that [we] might be partakers of his holiness.
Hbr 12:14 Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Brother Ben ~
Thank you for your post.
Personal holiness and purifying oneself are rarely spoken of in churches today. As stated in another thread on this site, entitled "Worldly Saints", many professed believers today have a "cheap grace" mentality and striving to become more and more conformed to the image of Christ is not of importance. I had been attending my husband's home church - - a 3,000+ non-denominational Rick Warren-type "seeker" church, until a few months ago. I know quite a number of people from this church and am on an acquaintance-level of friendship, but have limited it to just that. I have nothing in common with them because they are involved in soooooo many worldly things. I would go to church and all some people could talk about, for example, are how their lives come to a halt on a certain night of the week because they HAVE TO watch a certain program on television or they talk about the latest movie they saw, or what dance club they went to the previous evening. There is also rationalization of sin among people - - My husband and I personally know men and woman who are living together for "economic reasons" or are living together and are "engaged but haven't set a wedding date yet". In any event, I told my husband that I no longer wanted to attend this church and have been looking for a more faithful group of believers. Unfortunately, he is of a similar mind set as these people - - -I have been praying for him. He wants us as a couple to socialize with others from his church, but in doing so would not be edifying for me.
I have only been on the Covered Baptist fellowship group for a few weeks, but I thank the Lord that I am among a group of brothers and sisters who are sincere in their walk with Christ. We all need to edify each other, pray for one another and also be accountable one to another. There is a lot that the Lord has yet to weed-out of my life. I have to admit that I have not been at diligent and have been spotty in my consistency in living a daily life of holiness, but have recognized the error of this and, with the Lord's help, strive to move forward. I appreciated another thread on self-examination with the questions from Wesley's Holy Club that I came across today as well.
Lord Bless,
Mary Jo
