There is a story about 3 men who were all working on a job site building a church when someone asked each one what they were doing. The first worker responded by saying how much he was making in wages, the 2nd said he was cutting and laying stone, the 3rd said he was building a cathedral. They were all making the same wages, all doing the same work, but only one of these men had the right opinion of what and why he was doing this work...he had a vision and a hope in the task set before him.
Every day we have the opportunity to make money, to do a job, or to build cathedrals in our lives. If you are a born again believe who is saved by grace and living a life of purpose and vision that is led by the Spirit of God...you are doing more than just getting by day to day. Your life should be about building God's kingdom, for His honor and His glory. Be it sitting at a desk, in a classroom, or even standing behind a pulpit; if you belong to God, your purpose is a lot bigger than simply a "task".
In Col. 3:23 we are told, "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men" (KJV). I love how the King James uses that word "heartily", meaning with all that we have, putting all of our "heart" into it. If we are living our lives based on the Commandment of Christ (Matthew 23:37-40) and the Commission of God (Matthew 28:18-20), we are building cathedrals whether we realize it or not.
So, what are you building?

Wow - great reminder! For us ladies, "Every wise woman buildeth her house, but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands." It's so easy to forget in the daily run of things, that everything we do is either building or pulling down our families. Keeping a vision, a goal, keeps us building up!
