Hi, ladies! I am a moderately new seamstress, and I am looking for a simple pattern for a veiling. I was in the fabric store yesterday, and I found several good sales (i.e., beautiful fabric for $2/yard and patterns for $1.99 each), so I purchased enough fabric to make a jumper, plus a little extra (3/8 yard) with which I planned on making a matching covering. Could anyone give me some tips? I would like to make a simple triangle veiling or perhaps a Charity veiling or something of the like. Thanks!
Love in Christ,
Sarah

Sarah, I copied a pattern from a girl in Guatemala that I like a lot. Lying flat, it is shaped like a boat. You put it on like a bandanna, but it snaps under your bun (no knot!), and when worn it hangs like a triangle veil, minus the point in the back. It looks quite graceful. If you would like to try it out, pm me with your address and I can mail you a copy (if you don't mind newsprint!)

Thanks, sister! I decided to just cut out a triangle and hem it. It turned out really cute--especially because I cheated and traced a bandana I already had Thank you anyway, though Love in Christ, Sarah

Sister Sarah, I designed my own covering pattern and it was very easy. I used my daughter's compass and folded the paper in half length wise and just traced a nice big oval shape.
You can just understitch that or hem it. For a heavier covering, I made 2 of these and sewed them right sides together, left a small opening where the snap goes in the back under your bun, and turned them right sides out and sewed the area shut added one snap...you can adjust these nicely for length and size, but I found the compass tool was a must in sewing for me :-)
God bless, Sister Penny
