Hello to everyone, I'd like to introduce myself and family. My name is Diana Tyree I'm not 13 like it said in my registration, my son was typing in the registration info. for me and accidently put his age and birthday anyway I am actually 47 and my husband Ken is 50. We have 4 children, 3 grown and married daughters and our 13 yr. old son Anderson. We have 7 grandchildren so far. I have enjoyed reading many of the posts and having some likeminded encouragement, it can be a lonely journey at times. God is so good, I love Him with all my heart. We have a small 5 acre mini farm with boer goats, bees, 3 barn cats and a house dog.

We have a small farm here in Middle Tennessee. We bought 12 1/2 acres 4 years ago and started by faith to build a house. Humanly speaking CRAZY! But with God all things ARE possible. Was it easy? No Where there doubts, struggles, problems? Yes... But the Lord walked with us and guided every step of our path and blessed our faith and efforts, now we are in our finished home and we feel very blessed, warm, and provided for. No need is too big for God.
When we moved from our 15 acre rental farm that we lived at for 11 years we had to sell 9 goats (some Boar goats and a few Alpine milk goats) and 2 horses. We took the money we got for them all and bought a Holstein milk cow (Lucy is her name). Were not sure if shes going to calf or not, she is due now...and still no calf, we might have to try again. We were so excited about the milk we'd be getting from her. We have made quite the pet out of her. She licks us (kisses), and when shes laying down chewing her cud we can lay down with her, laying against her like a couch and shell put her big heavy head on our lap and fall asleep. My daughter does this with her often. What a neat cow she is. We have 4 dogs, 5 cats (way too many, but we love them all.), We have approx 40 chickens and roosters, and 1 full Boar Nanny goat which we were milking, and two female half Boar half Alpine (my little experiment) We love Boar goats the best their milk even taste better. I'm looking for a billy, I need to breed my females. I guess well have summer babies. Oh well. We want to get a pony, but are waiting for the Lord to provide the one best for us.
We hope to have a large garden this year and can alot, my pantries are full and I'm not sure where were going to store it all. Bro Ben and I are talking about digging an building a root cellar. We even have a nice place picked out. Were building a wood shed too. So much to do. It is fun and worthwhile putting money and effort into something that is yours and not your land lords.
We hope to live here forever and never have to move again.
Love your new sister, ~ Darlene ~

Thank you for your nice letter of welcome. I kind of feel like I already know you a little as I have read alot of your posts. I appreciate the things I'm learning here and trust the Lord to teach me more. God is so faithful not to leave us alone in our journey. Too bad we don't live closer we might be able to help you with the buck you need Diana

Dear Diana,
Do you milk your Boar goats? We like Boar milk the best. We haven't butchered any goats yet but we'd like to in the future, when we learn how to, I hear goat meat is really good.
We have a young doe Boar/Alpine mix, we want to trade her for a male if we can.
I think we are going to have to sell our milk cow back to the man we got her from because we really do not think she is going to calf.
Now we will have to find a new pregnant cow to buy. How sad...We will all miss Lucy.
Blessings on your week sister, ~ Darlene ~

Hi Darlene, We haven't milked our boer goats per say, although I have tasted the milk when I've milked some out for emergency use to have in the freezer, it was good. Weve always heard that meat goats don't have the extra milk just like a beef cow. We have one full dairy mix, saanen/nubian her name is Lilly and she's a cow as my husband calls her because shes big and fat even when she's not pregnant. She has triplets she's nursing and looks like she's still expecting Anyway we're going to try and milk her this time, my husband built a milk stand so we'll see how she does, she can have an attitude. We have goat meat and it is good if you cook it right, it's a tough meat with not much fat. I crock pot the the well seasoned roasts and the chops I put apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder sometimes braggs or soy sauce and brown them in olive oil then turn the heat way down and put a lid on for and hour or more till very tender. We have a vocational school about 45 min. away that does butchering for $25 an animal. My husband doesn't like to butcher so we've been doing that lately. We had someone do our chickens too. It's bitter cold here today, my husband got a plastic hut type looking thing from someone who has goats and put a heat lamp inside of it for all our baby goats to keep warm in. Sometimes our cats sleep with the goats and that looks funny I better get going, We're supposed to get some blizzard like weather and I want to get some bread made before that happens in case we would lose electric.
