Please allow me to make a suggestion which might provide for some peace of mind while on the boards. As we are aware there are a lot of banner ads which appear at the top of the pages. A lot of these ads are completely offensive. They are placed there by Google as a result of a little piece of spy-ware they use called a "crawler." This crawler sniffs around the posts looking for key words and matches those words up with advertisements. I just saw three ads at the top of the thread on Tattoos and Piercings advertising for body jewelry.
There is a way to control this. There is a free web browser available on the Internet which allows the blocking of these offensive ads. It is called "Mozilla Firefox." If anyone would care to investigate it you can go to www.download.com.
Once there you will see a search window on the home page. In that search window type in "Firefox." (without the quotes) Again it is entirely free. All you have to do is click the link to download it.
Once installed on your system Firefox provides an ad-blocking tool. Anytime there is an ad of any kind it is possible to right click on that ad to get a pop-up menu. At the bottom of the menu there is a command to ad-block image. If you click that you will get another little pop-up that displays the title of the ad and asks if you want to block it. Just click o.k., and the ad frame disappears.
You may have to do that to each frame but it is better than reading some of that trash. On a lot of the ads when you right click on them part of the menu says to ad-block images from... the blank being the name of the site. using this site I have been able to successfully block most of the ads from Google.
Mozilla Firefox is much faster than Internet Explorer. It is also far less prone to attacks by viruses and the like. I have found very few web sites that are not compatible with Firefox. For those I keep Microsoft Internet Explorer on my system but only need to use it once a month or so.
If anyone wants further information or help in downloading and installing Firefox just send me a PM and I will gladly assist you.
Yours in Christ,
George
