Dear All,
Brother George had mentioned Oswald Chambers in another thread and I thought I would bring him up again here. I have his daily devotions book and have been reading them for a couple of years. They never fail to make me think and examine myself and my walk. The simple truths they bring to me are gems on my journey. I also have a daily calander on my desk and today it says: '' Everyone who asks recieves...'' Luke 11:10. Often the more carnal Christian, the babe, the charismatic and backsliden Christian will take this to read that we as Christians will get all we want once we have Christ as our saviour but of course this is not the meaning that Christ would have us ponder on. Once saved, we have all we need. We need look for no more, no signs, feelings and outpourings. Oswald says it much beter than I. '' We will never recieve if we ask with a certain result in mind, because we are asking out of our lust, not out of poverty. A pauper does not ask out of any reason other than the completely hopeless and painful condition of his poverty. Blessed are the paupers in spirit.'' I found this very apt for myself...''If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.'' John 13:17. When i know I should do something but make excuses, put it off or rationalise in the flesh then i become spiritually sluggish...I am further from Him and start to look to myself to get out of my situation instead of fully relying on God. This will inevitably go back to a point where I did not do something that I was clearly called to do and knew I ought to do.
