Our youngest, Joel, has suffered with eczema since he was a baby; we have been Rx'd creams and medications (often steroids) but have attempted to do without these, favoring natural remedies.
Years ago I came up with a concoction that seems to work for him in place of soap for bathing (he does wash his hands with store bought soap and his hair with castile soap):
Fill half of your chosen container with aloe (you can use the clear aloe you can purchase at Wal Mart-not the GREEN stuff-but food grade from a natural food store is preferable)
Fill another quarter of your container with honey (we have used all kinds of honey for this)
Approximately 2 tbls each of glycerin (again, we prefer food grade) and witch hazel
1-3 drops each of lavender and tee tree oils
Shake well (and every time before use)
We put this in a pump bottle and keep it in the shower.
This has proven to be a good natural alternative to bodywash and/or soap for eczema and sensitive skin. The ingredients provide conditioning and cleansing and are anti infective. Joel's eczema stays pretty well in check when he uses this for bathing (NEVER SOAP) and then slathers himself with lotion (we use Cetaphil-Wal Mart Brand) as I have not had success in making a lotion that is beneficial (I am going to try making and using Darlene's Healing Salve). We also use this as a face wash, but do not get it too close to or in the eyes.
If trying, patch test before use for allergic or sensitive reactions. Also keep out of reach of smaller children; there may be food items in this but it is not edible.
I hope this is helpful.
