My husband and I are Christian homesteaders ( plain living, ect.) I am a headcovering woman, I wear bonnets to work in around the property, veils for going out in. I also wear long modest dresses with longer sleeves and smaller neckline w/ zipper in the back, some with buttons in the front. We have 2 acres of land that we live on in a double wide, with an electric well, we have chickens,, 2 female horses, 2 female sheep. 2 tiny female chihuahua's, a pregnant female goat we just bought saturday for a milk goat later for making our own organic soaps, cheese, ect. and drinking, we may get another female goat tomarrow that was with this goat for comapany. We have bought 26 acres of undeveloped land an hour away, we have been clearing it and almost done putting up the outside fence. We are going to build a cabin, greenhouse, barn/stable, corrals, pens and chicken house/pen. We want to grow our own alfalfa hay, grains, fruit trees, Pecan tree's and gardens (we grow a garden here every year but ground isn't as good as we need it to be, on the 26 acres it is. and no greenhouse here). We will also put in a fish pond to raise our own fish for eating, the water will be circulated at all times and no hormones like in storebought fish. In the spring we are going to buy some jersey giant chickens they dress out at 12 to 14 lbs each. Our chickens here are 8 years old, they will not be going with us when we move. We are Bible Believes and doers. We are not a specfic denomination. Were we will move to in a few months there is a Baptist Church 4 miles into the tiny town, no stores or anything except a truckstop 4 1/2 miles fromt the 26 acres it has a little convienent store with a sandwich, sub and pizza shop all in one.. Stores and Walmart are an hour away from the 26 acres.

Welcome, Sister Deanna. Thank you for the intro. I hope you enjoy your time here on our forum. We also have a chihuahua. She used to help us herd our horses. We called her our herding chihuahua. ;D She doesn't know how small she is. Bro. Ben

So good to have you here with us. I hope we can be an encouragement and a blessing to you.
Do you have any children?
What are your hobbies and interests?
I look forward to getting to know you.
We have quite a few homesteading, covering, modest, conservative sisters that are members on this site. Alot of us have been somewhat inactive, but maybe that will change. I'll try and log on and post more often. I personally have not logged on in quite some time. I haven't taken the time to post either.
We moved about one hour away from where we use to live and the soil and land is much different here and we haven't had good success with our gardens, but we do not give up each year we plod along toiling in the garden, sweat, tears, you know the routine. Every year we hope for the best. We know if we do not give up God will bless our diligence.
My oldest daughter just walked by, I mumbled out loud as I typed '' Every year we hope for the best'' she said while passing... ''are you talking about the garden?'' Isn't that funny! ;D Just a statement and she knew exactly what I was talking about. That's my girl...she's the one that helps me so much with the garden and outside tasks. We call it making memories.
Have a great day!
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~

Sister Deanna, Welcome!! My name is Elizabeth.. I am 22.. And I live with my family.. We have about 1 acre of land where I live and we have 2 goats, chickens, rabbits, dogs, a cat, a snake ( which is my sisters.. I am terrified of snakes), pet rats, a pig, a horse, and I think that is all.. I am the only one in my family that covers and dresses modestly.. Alot of people say I dress very plain.. But I also like to wear some material that has flowers in it.. But most of my dresses or skirts are plain colors.. Bro. Ben, We used to have a Chihuahua that did the same thing.. Except for she would do it with our goats and chickens.. She was soo hyper and she barked all the time and so we gave her to someone that really wanted her and now she is the biggest lap dog ever.. And she is very happy to be with the lady.. We do miss her but we know that she loves it there... We now have a poodle that thinks he is a small dog.. And he is the standard poodle.. Sister Darlene, I know with our gardens the last few years havent been good either.. I got only 2 cucumbers, a handful of peas, beans, and squash off of the garden I planted last spring.. And I myself was very discouraged.. Because of the time that I spent on planting everything.. But there wasnt anything I could do.. I do pray that this year it will be better.. And I pray that your family's garden will be a wonderful garden!! Please give bonnie my greetings! I miss your family dearly! Blessings to you all.. Elizabeth

We did get another female goat, she is a small black Lamancha, she is 6 months old but looks alot younger and so cute with her tiny ears. both our goats love being petted and petted, .
Bro Ben that is cute. You know Chihuahua's are very smart dogs. But yes they think they are bigger than they are.
Sister Darlene, We usually do have a garden here and most things do grow but we have had to really work hard at it. The people who live around the little settlement/town that our new place is 4 miles from really grow good gardens and orchards that sounds good to me. Yes we have a 28 year old daughter in Iowa with her husband (no kids) and a son 4 hours from us with his wife (no Kids) Both our daughter and daughter - in - law have a problem where they cant carry babies.
Sister Elizabeth, Yes I wear dresses with small flowers on it, my work dresses have matching bonnets, my going out to town or Church dresses I like veils, they go from the top of my forehead and as long as my hair, or some shorter ones I put my hair in a bun, with the bonnets I put my hair in a bun to, and the bonnet has a neck curtin down to my neck line for extra modesty. I also am the only one in my family or near me that wears head covering and modest dresses. The closest place with head covers is an hour from here in the opposite direction of our 26 acres and they are an older order Mennonite Church. We are not Mennonite though or Amish. So unless later we find some head covers near our 26 acres I'll still be the only one. All we can do is keep praying.

Hi! It's great to meet you.
My name's Rachel, I've just turned sixteen and I live in South Australia. I still live with my parents in a slightly more rural area and we have 1 acre; 2 cats, 7 rabbits, 2 quails, and about a dozen chickens. We will be getting a furry four-legged outdoor animal of some sort in a few months, probably a lamb. My father is very into 'green' and 'sustainable' living which basically means homesteading; we grow most of our own vegetables and fruit and we haven't bought shop eggs in about 14 years.
Although my family are all Christians, and am the only one of 3 females who headcovers and dresses modestly. My father believes that women should wear a headcovering but he says he won't force my mother and younger sister to. I pray for God to work in their hearts on the matter of headcovering and modest dressing. And on that note, I don't dress as plain as you other ladies seem to. I wear cape dresses in winter, but they're all floral or checked, and a jumper with a shirt in summer. I have 3 jumpers, two are plain-colour and one is grey with blue flowers, so I wear patterned shirts with the plain ones and plain shirts with the patterned one. I don't wear bright colours or very big prints though. I prefer to wear a veil-style covering and have been wearing a white oval veil recently because it's hot, but in winter I wear darker-coloured squares of material folded over into a triangle.
I am a Bible-believing, non-denominational Christian, the daughter of a liberal Anglican and a former-Anglican more AoG-type person, whose beliefs are most similar to a Baptist (my parents compromised on a Baptist church so I was raised mostly that way). I currently attend the local Baptist church as well as what is called the Ironbank Faith Community Church which meets once a month and is non-denominational. The town I live in isn't really a town so much as a locality; we have three very long streets, a CFS (Country Fire Station), and a church. We have to go into the nearby towns to shop for anything but it's not far.
Anyway, I hope I haven't bored you too much! It's great to have you on the board!
from Rachel.

hello Sister Deanna,
It is a pleasure to have you here. I am so excited about all the animals and ideas you have. We are city dwellers and have talked of being in the country. We have before but I actually like being in the city. We can eat organic because of people like you who sell in town, so I have an appreciation for homesteading and a desire to learn more. Thank you for sharing.
Sister Kristie
