Hello brothers and sisters, I have recently been diagnosed with COPD. The problem is I am allergic to albuterol so I am on two to three different inhalers plus coughing meds. They are costly and not very effective. Nights are currently hard for me. I am having a flare up of coughing spells and hacking. Please pray for help going through it and for my precious husband. He has to be up at 4 am to get to work and he stays up with me, makes sure I'm comfortable, and have all my needs met. He doesn't complain; however, I ask prayers for him to have the strength at work to get through the days. Thank you, Sis. Kristie

I am praying for you and your husband. My wife has asthma and takes albuterol twice a day. She also takes meds for thyroid problems and high blood pressure, plus she is partially deaf and wears 2 hearing aids. I know to some extent how it is for you with the coughing and such. I used to get up at 4:30 (when I had a job) and it was hard to work when Marie had a bad night of coughing so I sort of know how it is for your husband too.May God bless you in this troubling time. One day, sister, no more meds, no more doctors and Jesus face to face!

Thank you for your prayers. Since I am allergic to albuterol I use three different inhalers and none are fast acting like albuterol so I take other meds for coughing. I have had about three days with little problems at night and it has been so good for us to get the rest. Thank you for sharing because it helped alot. Asthma is very serious and although I haven't had it, the symptoms can be the same. Yall were remember in prayer as well.

Hello Kristie,
Wow . . COPD is nothing to mess with. I hope that you have a good pulmonary doctor that is working with you. Know you will be in my prayers that your doctor will be able to figure out a course of treatment that will work well for you so that your nights when you go to sleep won't be as difficult for you (and your spouse).

What is COPD? I don't understand this acronym (odd for me; I speak the language of Medical Acronym and Abbreviation pretty well) and am a little confused, and curious. It'll probably be obvious when I find out. from Rachel.

The way they explained it to me was, a combination of Chronic bronchitis and emphysema. I have more problems with coughing at this point than breathing. The doctor scheduled me to see a new pulminologist in February. I was shocked when I went to make my 55 dollar co-pay and they told me new guidelines have changed the insurance company so it cost 184 for just atrovent. My husband works hard but I cut back on use to keep expenses down.
Thank you all for the prayers. The doctor gave me something called tessalon pearls and it has help greatly with the coughing (and it costs less than what I had)

Dear sister Kristi,
We do our best to avoid the hospital like the plague. We've only been twice in 15 years. We feel the same about doctors offices. Doctors just seem to like to guinea pig. They really do not seem to have answers just drugs.(which have side effects they will be glad to treat with more drugs and of course a Doctors visit bill or many office visit bills.
If needed we go to the Doctor get a diagnosis and promptly use Herbs which have worked every time.
I seem to be the families weak link. You know the weaker vessel. Our children are strong inside and out, Bro Ben is the healthiest on the inside he hardly ever gets sick. His bones are just crippled but inside he's fit as a fiddle. We praise God for his good health. As for me I'm falling apart. High blood pressure, constant kidney problems, weak lungs (I was diagnosed with Reactive Air Ways Disease (now called COPD) in 1996 I was on 13 different procedures and medications, when it wasn't working and they said I was dieing and would be dead before my 30th birthday. Bro Ben took me off of everything we started a strict regiment of Herbs and my lungs were strengthened, I do not have breathing attacks or coughing fits anymore it took 9 months to see good results. When it's very humid, or I come in contact with cigarette smoke or diesel fumes I have trouble breathing but other than that I'm healed. I was so bad that I could not even get around candles, smelly sprays, perfumes, potpourri, even detergent and soap caused me problems.) God is so good to heal me.
About 10 years ago my Midwife had me take 2400 mg (way too much!) of Calcium instead of 1200mg (which is normal) and my gal bladder formed a huge gal stone too big to pass. I could have died the attacks were almost unbearable (it probably took years off my life, my hair got alot grayer.) We did not go the Doctor/Hospital surgery route we tried shrinking it with Lemon Juice and Apple Juice (Lemon Juice eats them away and Apple Juice softens them) and for the attacks I took Olive Oil and 500 mg of chewable Vit C and rested on my right side, and then to heal my poor over stressed wore out gal bladder I went on a 10 gram a day fat diet and took Lecithin with every meal. This healed my gal bladder and I do not suffer with the stones any more, I can eat greasy pizza, fried chicken etc with no problems.
My kidneys are another story, still trying to figure them out.
I am doing good with the high blood pressure. Apple Cider Vinegar 1 Tb mixed with 1 Tb Honey in a warm mug of water brings down blood pressure take 2 to three times a day. Aspirin is good too.
I actually had a stroke with the birth of my last baby, my left side of my face was numb for days my middle finger and ring finger and pinkie was numb (no feeling at all) for days, I could not hear out of my left ear at all and my eyes were very blurry especially my left eye which is my strong eye. I had severe pain like I had been beaten with a base ball bat on my left side, and I had memory loss and delayed speech. I never went to the doctor because what could they do, except for medications which I do not want. So I prayed, rested, paced myself, took herbs and my body healed slowly but surely. I only have memory loss now. No bill no added health issues from taking medications (pharmaceuticals). God used Herbs to heal me again.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Well that was my personal experience with Reactive Airways Disease now renamed (COPD).
We lived in Houston Tx at the time which is the 4th most polluted state in the USA. I had weak lungs from smoking before I was saved from 10-19 years old then when we moved to Houston it was humid with bad pollution and it attacked my lungs, we also lived in a travel trailer ( my husband is an Evangelists and we traveled from church to church preaching revival meetings and helping small churches) I've always wondered if something in the trailer might have added to my weak lungs. Carpet, mold or something undetected. It was an old trailer, but even a new house can have poisonous chemicals that can cause major problems in some people.
I got so bad off in Texas that I was on 13 different drugs and procedures and had to pull a large oxygen tank on wheels around with me, I had that on all day and night. Yuck! I was so young to be so sick. I had three small children ages 7,4,2. And then I got pregnant when I was dying. Which was a blessing in disguise.
I was preparing to meet my maker, my breathing/coughing attacks were so bad and so often. I would cough out clear phlegm, lots of it, I would choke and not be able to even breath, almost passing out and after an attack I'd be in bed for days after, too weak to do anything.
I was told I would probably die if we did not move to a better climate. The only door that opened for us to move was Middle Tennessee. We love it here. I became pregnant right before we moved and I got a midwife here who promptly put me on healing herbs.
Somewhere I have all the herbs and amounts written down.
Here are the ones I remember: Niacin mineral, garlic, eccanachea, chlorella, and Finugreek Thyme which thins the mucus (it really helps the respiratory).
Unkers salve rubbed on the palms of the hands and cupped over the mouth and nose then take deep breaths works during breathing difficulty, also breathing deeply the cold air in the freezer helps when having difficulty breathing. If your in town get a big cup fill half way with ice put a few Tb of water in the cup then cup it around your mouth and nose and breath deeply. It really helps. You can rub Unkers salve in your nose then take deep breaths in the cup of ice. This really helps. I find staying away or getting away from things that irritate my lungs and breathing helps most.
The medications they had me on were not helping me much and causing me to feel chemically sick inside. It took me 9 months to get really healthy. I am not 100% cured but I have been medication free for 16 years and my breathing problems are mild and controllable now. I got off of all medication at once which was hard and a few months later started taking herbs. I stayed on oxygen until we moved to Tennessee. It was scary to go off of the oxygen but I did it and God took good care of me and healed my lungs to an acceptable point. I've had 5 more children in the last 16 years (9 in all). God is so good to guide and protect.
I told you all of this so you could at least have another option. Doctors and drugs can only lead down hill at least not up hill.
I know this is read all over the web maybe someone out there will get something positive and helpful from my post.
Blessings on your day sister Kristi! Love ~ sister Darlene ~

Thanks! It's quite probably called that in Australia, I just haven't heard the name before. I think my grandmother had it, although it was caused by her having whooping cough as a baby. from Rachel.

Sister Kristi's quote: I do understand that there is no cure for COPD, but I have a choice on serving the Lord with joy or moping and getting down. Each person has different levels and times of sickness. coveredbaptists.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lifestyles&action=post&thread=3930&page=1Bro Ben said that's what the doctors and pharmaceutical companies want you to think. It's money in their pockets as long as you stay sick. I know I was there on deaths door step, they gave up on me, they couldn't even help me any more. They said I was dying and I knew I was, I felt sick inside and out, almost without hope. But I am a christian and I put my trust in God to guide my path, and He did!
He gave me a mid wife who was an old black lady, she had delivered hundreds of babies and she knew the healing power of herbs and how to use them, she was a sweet christian lady. God put her across my path. I was desperate...I had tried the doctors path and now I was going to die if something did not change.
I would like to encourage you. I wrote my testimony in the COPD thread. If God gave me my health back, he can give you your health back (medication free). You do not have to be sick for the rest of your life.
I have to tell you so you will have a choice. I remember how desperate I felt when I thought there was no hope.
Love and prayers, ~ sister Darlene ~

Yes I did feel desperate. I prayed and read your post. Reading your story gave me hope. I also went out to get some lemon and honey and I'm looking into more natural ways. We live in the area not far from a nuclear plant and many other factories. We lived in the city for awhile now. When we married myhusband was a roofer, but now we live in a polluted city and he worksin a factory. After reading your post I talked to my dh and I want to be off all the meds that may kill me before COPD does. I am on an exercise regime and bought a few supplements. When they change my Meds it works only for awhile and then something else. I know God is with me and has provided a better way for me to be healthy, I now need to learn them. There is definately something wrong with a doctor saying your tryglicerides are 663 and to lose weight but they give you lots ofsteroids andnarcotics that cause weight gain.
I know doctors can be helpful and I am thankful for them. My God is the great healer and I will continue to pray and learn. I thought I would add that I have been walking and doing some light weights. It has been hard but helped relieve me of my extra night time steroids. I remember a sermon bro. Lester Roloff said about the Exodus out of Egypt being a type of exercise program for His people.
Thank you Sister Darlene, I have read and reread your post and found it encouraging.

Oh how exciting sister Kristi,
I will be praying for the Lord to give you Wisdom and the strength to do what it takes to regain your health.
I know what you mean about pollution. We lived in Houston Texas at the time I got so sick.
We moved out in the country and I think that has helped me greatly. also I try and stay in places that have an air condition.
You should run air purifiers with a HEPA Filter.
Hey I wrote about Juicing on the other Thread called Returning to Health IIcoveredbaptists.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lifestyles&action=display&thread=3930&page=1Reply #5
That might be really healing for your poor lungs. If our bodies have proper nutrients then it can heal itself.

Praise Jesus and thank you all for your prayers. Went to pulminologist and he said I have a very strange case of intense chronic cough; however, I have healthy lungs with no COPD. Now I know how I was and using several meds ncluding three inhalors. I went in there to get set up for home treatments. I was telling the nurse I sure would like to get off some of these inhalors. Neither one of us knew that the Dr. Took me off all them. Said it may bejust sinus problems or allergis pf some kind. Said again it was a strange case but my lungs were great. Ran the test twice and I'm waiting on e-xrays just to be precautionary. He ass baffled so sending me to an Eng and allergy doc. I'm amazed at how powerful God is. To be honest I was shocked. My dh and I walked out the door and thanked the Lord. I know this may sound jumbled but those of you, such as Sis. Darkened understand how bad it is. I am so happy. Sister Darlene, I started eating better, became more active, dusted and took an over the counter decongestant. It helped. My husband prayed for me regularly and helped me. Reading the post made me want to take action. It is kind of weird when doctors look at you and cannot explain.
